This book is not the lighthearted summer romance it's advertised as. I found Marin to be an annoying and unappealing character. There is also very little romance or chemistry to make sense of the love story - you really don't get to know anything about Lucas or why there's a spark between him and Marin.

The first 150 pages or so we’re cute, and addicting. I couldn’t put it down although I felt it was a bit silly and a little too convenient. But as everything unfolds and you find out what Sadie‘s plan is, I lost it. I cried thoroughly the last half of the book. I wasn’t expecting to be hit so hard. Well I still would’ve liked a little more depth to Lucas and Marin’s relationship it was really good.

As many reviewers have noted, don't think this is a light romance based on the cover. There are some heavy themes here and lots of tears. And there is romance, but the real love story is between the two sisters.

*Thank you to Berkley Publishing for my gifted copy.

This book gave me ALL the feelings! This was definitely a read that sucked me right in and was much more than I expected. It was layered, emotionally complex, and extremely well written. I loved the story of sisterhood and family, the romantic sub-story, and the underlying message of finding yourself. The details were so vivid that almost felt like I was in this tropical paradise, which was perfect for reading in January.

While sisters, Sadie and Marin, led the way as main characters, I loved the smaller character additions, specifically those they meet on the island who offer their kindness with no expectations in return. The emotional and heartbreaking ending was powerful and I know this book will stick with me for a long time.

My full review will be posted on my website, genthebookworm.com, closer to the publication date.

Man I really wanted to love this one and I thought that I would because it seemed cute and fun when I started it. But I quickly got bored of it. I'm not invested in these characters or this trip at all so after 140 pgs I'm calling it quits. Just not for me. I will still give it 2 stars because it was written well. I just didn't enjoy it that much.

Not a romance, not a cutesy comfort read. I was glad that was forewarned about this being much more contemporary lit fic than romance going in. The romance takes a backseat to the relationship between the sisters and dealing with the blows life has thrown at them. I really enjoyed it and connected with the sisters and their utter failure at communication and acts of selflessness. I was infuriated by the way they treated each other while also totally understanding it. And in the end, the character arcs were well done.

This book should definitely have a TW for cancer. Didn't bother me, but it certainly hit me harder, and it might be something some readers will want to avoid.
