This has an intriguing premise - what happens on a cruise when someone disappears & international waters are essentially lawless territory? I felt like this was a book of two halves. I really enjoyed the first half. The opening drew me in & I thought Adam was a great character in his search for what happened to Sarah. However, it felt like the second half of the story was rushed. Adam just makes one dumb decision after another, and there’s a sub-plot that I felt added nothing to the story. I found the villain of the story (and their reasons why) were surprising but not surprising - it seemed to be added complexity for complexities sake. I saying this, I had to know what happened to Sarah. This would be a good summer holiday read, but maybe don’t read it if you are on a cruise or thinking of going on one!

entertaining enough but a whole entire pov felt pointless to the plot of the story. like whole chucks, just completely unnecessary which kind of pulled me out of the rest of the story.

I thought the main story was interesting enough and the twist at the ending was good. However - the side story was so unnecessary - could have done without Luc and Corinne. That whole part could be taken out of the book and not missed at all. I guess just to make us not suspect Peter? It did not work for me.

Trying to alternate between books I put on my TBR recently and > 1 year ago. It's spooky season, so I picked up this one from an author raved about frequently on one of my reading podcasts, which I put on my list in 2021. Don't remember why I picked this one in particular, but it turns out to have been her debut novel. Consumed on kindle.

This was an excellent and well crafted thriller, pieces laid out in a way that made sense for the culmination, which I did not see coming and think even people a bit more astute than me with this sort of thing might also not see coming.

Overall, I'd recommend this widely to thriller fans and plan to read more of her after this.

4.5 stars. This book exceeded my expectations. It was interesting and unpredictable. Other reviewers who gave lower ratings felt that the story was top heavy with subplots and hard to follow but I that wasn't at all an issue in my experience. Great debut novel!

This was meh and a little draggy after the halfway point. The idea with the cruise was great but the execution was not so great. I was significantly more compelled by Roma’s story tbh, and at first I thought I knew what the author was driving at with the dual narration, but it didn’t quite work for me in terms of clearing things out. Anyway, I guess this is a 2.5 for me.
