I don't understand this book. I mean, I understand it, but then again, I don't. Which, might actually be a major theme of the book. What we understand and what we don't and how that adds to our personal characters, I mean.

A beautifully written “coming of age” story about a Native American boy, how he gets his adult name and how he proves he deserves the name he is give. I read this chapter book with my daughter for school.

Well-written children's book of a Native American child prior to European colonization who has limited eyesight. A coming of age story. I read this as the same time as my son since it is part of the curriculum we're using for school. This is ideal as a reader for elementary aged kids.

We were reading this book as an accompaniment to what we were learning in history. My 11 year old was a bit bored with the story and I would have to agree with him. Since the book is so short, I finished it. He stopped reading it about halfway through (I need to get better at quitting books!).

This was such a sweet story and a perfect independent read to accompany to our Native American studies. Some parts are a little hard to follow what’s actually happening, but that has more to do with the beautiful descriptions and native perspective than anything. The little twist at the end was unexpected and gave a lot of food for thought.

A quick read about a Native American boy with really bad eyesight. In modern times he'd probably be considered legally blind. The descriptions and ways he compensates with his hearing is interesting, but the overall story is a little odd.

We loved this book as part of our homeschool curriculum. It was a great introduction to understanding life in the America before the colonizers.
