The topic of this book is amazing. The execution leave a lot to be desired. It was all over the place. I found it hard to follow in some places and other times I would just be getting into a character or topic when the story line would change. The topic is 5 stars and the writing itself is at best 3 stars.

Story is definitely one to be told, however I was not a fan of the way the book was written.

I really enjoyed this story!! I had seen the movie a while back and enjoyed it as well, but wanted to read the book to have more information on the women involved.

We need more stories like this because history is just too damn selective about who gets to be highlighted and who does not. So do yourself a favor, read the book, watch the movie, support the story!

All of the facts and information presented in the book were really interesting. I felt like the way the book was written was really boring, though. I bet the movie will be great--I can't wait to see it. It just felt like I was reading a text book. Anyways, like I said, a lot of interesting facts, just badly presented.

While this book has a lot of good information, it falls into a trap pretty common to history books. Several different individuals are introduced and followed, but as you learn more things about them, the author introduces the broader historical context, and when they finish with that move on to something else. It made it trickier to follow and I feel like I didn't retain as much. But the people really felt individual, each womans mindset/personality came off the page.
