As mentioned in my review of book #2, this book felt a lot weaker than the others. I still enjoyed it because of the concept, but I think the characters lost much of the charm they had earlier if my memory serves me correctly. Again, I'll follow the sediment I suggested with earlier books. If you are interested in young adult fiction this is a great series, otherwise it can fall flat.

This was my introduction to this series and it took me a little bit to get into it and it might have been because I listened to it on audio, but after it started to pick up I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the glimpse into the Summoner world and kind of how it works with Nobles being the only ones who can be summoners until Arcturus summons a demon meant for a Prince. Then this kicks off the whole commoner vs noble because noble's think they are better than everyone else. I enjoyed the character development that came later in the book. Overall great introduction to the series and I can't wait to continue.

The book was a good dive into the early years. The author I think tried to tie to many things into this story. Some were a stretch to tie it to the future but still was a good book.

What a great book. I was never bored and loved the insight of other characters before the series. The development of the main character was amazing but I wish there was more from other commonors or dwarfs in this book. Also, I almost wish that this book was the first book in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley and Hachette Children’s Group for giving me this book to review.
The Outcast is an enjoyable prequel which is fast paced and a good addition to the Summoner series. However, there was no real jeopardy, even in tense situations, and it is annoying that practically all the adults from the main series featured in this book.
I like Arcturus as he is streetwise but also kind and courageous. I loved the growing friendship between Arcturus and Sacha, as they were very protective and caring of each other.
I enjoyed this book and being back the world of the Summoner. I would recommend The Outcast to fans of the main books in the series.

An interesting premise for a new series (at least for me :) )
I am looking forward to seeing what happens next!
