Even more questions. The series starts to lose its magic. Just like Lost the TV series.
I'll be honest - this felt a lot more like a two to me than a three star graphic novel, but I am bumping it up because I do like the concept, the characters, and I was just super excited about this series when I heard it was based off an idea by Jeff Kinney (author of Diary of a Wimpy Kid).
The Lost Expedition is. . .serviceable. . .at best. I think it's one of those comics it would be easier to like if you weren't an avid comic book / graphic novel reader, which unfortunately in this case I am. There's just nothing that wonderful about The Lost Expedition.
Even though it's aimed at the younger crowd (middle school readers) I can't imagine they would find this that entertaining either. I was hoping with Poptropica #2 the authors would find their stride, but it seems like they have lost momentum. I'll pick up Poptropica #3 if it's convenient, but I wouldn't go out of my way to read it.

'The Lost Expedition (Poptropica #2)' by Mitch Krpata with art by Kory Merritt continues the adventures from the first volume.
Oliver, Mya and Jorge are still on the run from Octavian. They just want to get home, he just wants the map they have. They try to use the map to get home and find themselves on an island of Amazons, in Shakespeare's England, buying fruit from William Gunn on Treasure Island, and finally to the heart of the story in the frozen Antarctic. They escape a polar bear only to find themselves amidst a group of explorers on a boat that is frozen in the ice. Will they be safe here or is there lurking danger? Can they get home? And what does the name Poptropica even mean?
It's a fun young reader series. The travels seem to be taking them through history and literature. The Treasure Island reference is vague, but it's there. I liked the first book in the series a bit better, but this was a fun read.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from ABRAMS Kids, Amulet Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

*I really like this series, and I am looking forward to book 3 where everything is tied together (hopefully)!
The plot felt a smidge forced, but good character development and worth reading if you enjoyed the 1st book.
This was my first encounter with the Poptropica universe. Since I did not really know the characters or the premise, I found it quite difficult to follow the story, but I do have the vague impression that reading the first book would not have made a big difference anyway. The action is all over the place literally and strange characters appear out of nowhere and have little to no importance to the plot. Very basic characters and rather caricatures (we had to have a plumpy character obsesses with food didn't we and the female heroine who saves the day). I basically have no idea why this book is a New York Times best seller but I ve long learnt that bestsellers are not necessarily good, fun or engaging.
A fun short read. This is book 2 in the series. This time Oliver, Jorge, and Mya get to visit the Amazons where they get confused for Gorgons, but ultimately end up in the frozen North. Boy is it cold. But Octavian still wants the map. And now there are these weird people with tattoos calling them prisoners, and chasing them down. The adventure continues in book 3, and so should you.
