That being said, if you read this, please do; even if it's just for "Low Men in Yellow Coats." It's a beautiful story and I enjoyed it vastly more than the film adaptation of "Hearts in Atlantis".
The story of "Hearts in Atlantis" was also good, but not quite the same. The characters felt fully fleshed out and I really enjoyed Stoke's character.
"Blind Willie" made me feel nothing. I don't cope well with unlikable main characters and Willie was one of those.
However, "Why We're in Vietnam" and "Heavenly Shades of Night are Falling" were both equally touching in a different way from "LMiYC". My advice, read all of them except "Blind Willie" then read that last.

Ultimately, the problem with this book is that it is just quite boring. The first novella, 'Low Men in Yellow Coats', is very good and pretty engaging, but the title novella, 'Hearts in Atlantis', was very dull. As for the short stories, they felt more like additional information, rather than necessary stories. However, 'Heavenly Shades of Night are Falling' saved this book from having a lower rating.
