I really enjoyed all the stories and was quickly captivated by all but one, which is the only reason I’m not giving it a 5 stars!
Graphic: Torture, Violence, and Murder
Minor: Child abuse, Child death, and Sexual harassment

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me an E-ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I appreciated this small collection of short stories. They are all vastly different to one another with the core theme being horror. The morals and decisions that the characters make in this book are awful but to be expected. I felt like each story was entertaining in itself and gives you a taste of LaRocca's writing style. I do feel like it left something to be desired. I would read more of LaRocca's books.

each story was better than the last but cut at the most “disturbing” part, cutting out any of the horror of most of it

Short stories are a difficult form to master and those collected in This Skin Was Once Mine and Other Disturbances feel as if they're reaching for something and just not quite getting there. There was a certain strangeness but no depth to fasten it to which made it difficult to invest in any of the characters or their tales.
