I learned more about history from this book than all my years in school. May have been screaming into the void this entire book, only read if you want to walk away hating most of the male population!

this is just ... not good. let's start off with the fact that it's very white. very western, i suppose. the author doesn't get into how racism and misogyny are related nor does she at all pay attention to countries / ethnicities that seem to be out of her scope. along with that, she has some questionable takes on gender, it was very much giving the way people talk about the 'divine feminine' and try to cover up the fact that it's thinly veiled bioessentialism and transphobia. the bioessentialism in this book is so infuriating that i could barely keep reading. it's not even just because it's transphobic, it's also because the author went down a rabbit hole and ended up basically claiming that the female anatomy / biology has something to do with the root cause of misogyny. if that's what you believe then that's fine, but i can never agree.
there is some value to this book, but it's all very surface level. even the examples that the author brought up didn't feel enough, because she just doesn't go as in depth as i would expect. i just wanted better historical research, more intersectionality, and more detail. but i didn't get it.
