I'm really fixated on these films and honestly that's the only reason I made it to the end of the book. Its bad. worse than the film.
I did appreciate the increase of accidental autism coding and trans coding of Herbert. I'm baffled by some additional stuff put in, such as Dan nailing bats to the wall.
Also this is possibly gayer than the film but definitely more homophobic

Gives a lot more context and explains things that the movie only touched upon.

Love how everyone roasts West for being short and gay. As if he’s doing that on purpose.

Hyperfixation went brrrrr. Not sure if this book had even more homoerotic subtext than the movie or was actually homophobic. Probably both.

Titulo: Re-Animator
Autor: Jeff Rovin
Año publicado: 1987
Motivo de lectura: #PopSugarReadingChallenge2023
Lectura / Relectura: Lectura

Mi edicion: -
Idioma: Ingles
Puntuacion: 3/5

On one hand it gave us Canadian Herbert West, Dan Cain being a bit of a freak, and some really nice personality dialogue for Meg early on. On the other hand, the POV was all over the place (I'd really like to know who's perspective I'm reading at each point), when the book changed movie dialogue it was generally made clunkier and more unnaturally written, and the entire thing lacks emotion -- you don't get to see into the minds of the characters as much as you should.

decent book but does not capture the magic OR homoeroticism of the film. jeff rovin does not understand herbert west or re-animator the way i do.

An awesome novelisation of Re-animator. Not only it is basically word for word the movie like most novelisations but it flushes it out adding more details and scenes. Was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed it.
