While she does make good points on vulnerability and learning from our failures and allowing that to teach us and make us strong, I was expecting more "oomph", for the lack of a better word. There were plenty of anecdotes in the book, though. I thought the stories were great.

5★: IF YOU DON’T LOVE DR. BRENÉ BROWN, WE CAN’T BE FRIENDS. This was my 4th of her books, and I’m considering giving one or more 'Favorite' status because I could easily re-listen to any of them. They are so meaty, it’s difficult at times to JUST LISTEN as I want to take notes. I have at least three more on my TR list, so maybe I will circle back for repeats after I finish those. I love to hear her talk; she puts herself smack dab in the middle to model the vulnerability we all need to get better at. She truly is the perfect combination of researcher and storyteller. The world needs more Brené’s! Ok, so I did take notes. I couldn’t help myself! What follows isn’t ALL of my notes, just a teaser.

The Physics of Vulnerability ♥
1. I want to be in the arena; I want to be brave with my life. And when we make the choice to dare greatly, we sign-up to get our asses kicked. We can choose courage, or we can choose comfort, but we cannot have both. Not at the same time.
2. Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show-up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it is our most accurate measure of courage.
3. A lot of cheap seats in the arena are filled with people who never venture onto the floor. They just hurl mean-spirited criticisms and put-downs from a very safe distance. The problem is, when we stop caring what people think, and stop feeling hurt by cruelty, we lose our ability to connect. BUT, when we’re defined by what people think, we lose the courage to be vulnerable. Therefore, we need to be selective about the feedback we let into our lives. For me, if you’re not in the arena getting your ass kicked, I’m not interested in your feedback.

At the time of this review, Rising Strong had a 4.24-star rating by 74,180 peeps. It’s her 5th most popular book on GR. I recommend it to ANYONE interested in personal transformation, self-help, continuous improvement, improving relationships, etc.
