I was pleasantly surprised by how much killing is in this novel. Ya is usually very against that. I enjoyed the mystery of jetta's powers and the side characters. A jungle setting is not my first choice for a fantasy, but heilig utilizes it well, and i think the story benefits as a result. The fusion of french and asian cultures, also.
VERY happy it wasn't enemies to lovers, but the romance isn't necessary and the plot loses nothing if it's removed.
