I LOVED THIS BOOK. I laughed out loud and sobbed at the end. This rom-com has some heavier themes and really dives into familial relationships. I blew through this in 24 hours, and it is narrated by one of my favorites (Queen Julia Whelan). This is maybe my favorite Emily Henry. First person POV.

This is definitely a book for any woman who feels out of place, like she hasn’t and never will get a happy ending. Maybe she’s been labeled the villain once or twice, and she doesn’t give a damn.

I want to live in this book. Emily Henry will now always be able to count on me to buy whatever she writes, 100%. No miscommunication trope with the male MC,  TOP TIER banter, intelligent MC, and well written atmosphere.

Nora is a literary agent, and an amazing one. She is great at what she does. She doesn't have time to focus on much else, mostly because she considers herself a realist. We meet Charlie, the surlie editor who doesn't seem to jive with her about what turns into her career changing client and her best selling book. Cut to Nora's baby sister, pregnant with baby #3 and she need a vacation. She wants to visit the hometown setting of the book from the bestseller of Nora's top client. They need the time together.

I was NOT expecting it to be that deep. I laughed, and I damn near cried. I love that it was equally about Nora and her sister healing their miscommunications and relationship, and not just about the romantic side. I loved the focus on healing properly from the past. This book hit me right in the heart. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Emily Henry has done it again!! Book Lovers is a sweet, funny, emotional romance about two people learning to prioritize themselves after years of self-sacrifice.

Nora, an intense, no-nonsense literary agent from NYC, finds herself in a sleepy small town in North Carolina with her beloved (and very pregnant) sister for a sibling getaway. While in the town’s sole coffee shop, she runs into Charlie, a successful, stern editor who left a lackluster impression on her back in the big city. Thrown together over her client’s latest manuscript, the two begin to thaw each other’s emotional walls as they discuss duty, grief, regret, belonging, and loneliness.

I genuinely laughed out loud multiple times throughout this; Emily Henry has a way of writing snappy dialogue that feels authentic rather than contrived, and the characters’ inside jokes include the reader, drawing us into their world right alongside them. The scene of place is also very strong, with the odes to New York particularly poignant. And the core romance is both simple and complicated, a testament to the realistic ties that bind and break us.

4.5/5: Another strong romance by Emily Henry with compelling characters, great writing, and an honest heart.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

With BOOK LOVERS Emily Henry has really hit her stride as a romance writer.  In this novel we meet work-a-holic literary agent Nora who has somehow become the victim of a classic Hallmark movie trope–four times now a boyfriend of Nora's will leave NYC for a "visit" to his small hometown, will meet a girl there, and will break up with Nora. Things get complicated when her pregnant sister drags Nora to the seemingly fictions Sunshine Falls only for Nora to run into her work nemesis–editor Charlie Lastra.  Henry has stuff this novel full of wholesome love, character growth, and amazing confrontations of oldest-child-syndrome.  This will please her fans and certainly bring others into the fold.  Such fun!

initial thoughts:

Her best yet. Thought I could savor it but blew through it in 24 hrs. I related so much to the rigidity in these characters, the older-sibling responsibilities, the pain of self-sacrifice. How tender they become towards one another. Fantastic pacing as always, tighter and and perfectly polished in every way. Just perfect.
