TW: domestic abuse, bullying, mental health, homophobia, neglect through the justice system, death

I don't usually cry from books, but this made me want to cry so badly. Monday's Not Coming is a heartwrenching, gripping, fast, and emotional tale about two friends and the justice system's failure. This is such a powerful book that everyone should read.

Not as earth-shattering as [b:Allegedly|30037870|Allegedly|Tiffany D. Jackson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1476974718s/30037870.jpg|50000013], but definitely a page-turner!

It was ok. The timeline was far too convoluted. Hated the way the story was laid out.

4.5⭐ Oh my... This was, to put it simply, heartbreaking. Claudia is worried that her best friend has not returned to school after summer break. She makes many unsuccessful attempts to alert the adults and authorities of her concerns and is quickly dismissed. This novel is intricate and has many ways of showing us nuanced views on parenting, the effects of racial bias when reporting missing young Black children, societal expectations, the adultification of Black girls vs Black boys, mental health issues, housing displacement and the negative effect in poor communities. Complex topics that are touched upon without delving too deeply but just enough to see how it touches lives in different ways. Give this a go but be prepared.

Lastly, this could've been 5 stars if the way chapters were organized was more cohesive. I don't mind flashbacks at all but the way my brain works I need a little more order. However, after reading some reviews I just let go of the order and just kept reading until 75% closer to the end and when it all made sense.

Although this was very different from what I usually read, I can't deny its beauty and the strength of the story. Anyway, this is a highly recommended book for the right reasons. Give it a go but look at the trigger warnings. Enjoy!

After reading "Allegedly" earlier this year I knew I had to read Tiffany D. Jackson's backlist. "Monday's Not Coming" was next.

I love a book that sits with me long after I've finished it. I experienced this with "Allegedly" and now "Monday's Not Coming". This is a powerful story of love, loyalty, and grief; and it hit me hard in the feels.

Read this. Read all of Tiffany D. Jackson's other books. She's quickly becoming one of my favorite writers.

She does it again! I just cannot get over her writing and her ability to tell heartbreaking, raw, and real stories in the most beautiful way! This one touches on the lack of interest in people of color going missing as well as child abuse. It’s a tough read but so worth it. The ending even has me a little misty eyed. As usual I listened to this on audio and it was incredible!
