Lord Edgware Dies by Agatha Christie

Lord Edgware Dies offers a complex whodunit in the classic Christie fashion, where Hercule Poirot faces the challenge of solving Lord Edgware's murder. The suspects are many, each with compelling motives, but it is the twist of mistaken identities that drives the plot. Poirot's deductions lead to an ingenious resolution, though the journey there may not be Christie's best work. The narrative lacks the tightness of her standout novels, and some twists are less than surprising. For Christie aficionados, it's an agreeable read but might not stand out in her impressive repertoire. 3/5 stars for its middle-of-the-road intrigue and clever, though not her most striking, conclusion.

Hastings, Japp and Poirot ❤️ Lucky me, lol. I suspected the murderer from the start but had a great time watching Poirot use his little grey cells to figure out the how and the why.

Great mystery in this one! I loved the reveal at the end, and the build up was so suspenseful.

However, be warned there is very strong racist language in this book, along with anti-semitism.

Lord Edgware is murdered shortly after his wife, Jane Wilkinson, has openly confessed to Poirot and Hastings that she would love to bump him off because he won't agree to a divorce. She is the obvious suspect but the time of Lord Edgware's death coincides with a dinner gathering that Lady Edgware attends with twelve friends. So Jane's alibi is cemented and Poirot must exercise his grey cells.

There are suspects aplenty in this whodunnit and multiple murders. For us, and our unreliable biographer Captain Hastings, it's even more perplexing because famed actors and actresses are involved plus the common assortment of family, friends and servants. So many twists and people with possible intent that, for me, anyone could have done it... particularly because Lord Edgware was an unpleasant person.

Another engrossing mystery where I was clueless!
