LOVED IT. I love the author's writing style so much holy shit. I loved Jack and her story.
My only complaint is that the ending felt way too rushed. I get that these are novellas but I felt that it all happened super quickly at the end.

Still, I can't wait to read the next one!! I don't even know when it comes out

This is a prequel to "Every Heart a Doorway", and part two of the Wayward Children series - but it works as a standalone book.

It's written somewhat like a fairy tale or a children's book, with occasional asides from the narrator to tell you things you wouldn't otherwise know. The voice feels a bit like a narrator in a movie, which isn't at all bad, if you find that fun.

While the events and characters in themselves feel quite realistic and modern, you never quite get inside anyone's head and you don't get to enjoy the details of their lives - making everyday girls feel more like fairy tale characters.

Anyway. Jacqueline and Jillian are twins, born to a couple more interested in their own fantasies of societal approval than they are in the reality of actually having a family. The two girls are thrust into strict roles to satisfy their parents' desires, and they grow more distant and unloved as time goes by - until they find a door into a terrifying, horror movie world, where one of them is raised by a vampire, to become a monster, and the other is raised by a mad scientist, to become a mad scientist herself.

It's a delightful novella, and I'm curious about what the next books in the series are like.

After being introduced to these characters in the first book, learning about their back stories is quite the adventure. Like a dark fairy tale or a childhood nightmare, the world here is vivid in its darkness. Looking forward to more of these.

I love the prose in this series, I think McGuire has a really beautiful, creepy way of painting a scene. This felt like a little Grimm's Fairy Tale.
I liked this one more than Every Heart A Doorway.

Let me first say that I really did enjoy the dynamic between Jack and Jill in this story.

HOWEVER, I wish that this story was MUCH longer. I was so invested in their story, I just wanted more.

Като леко зловеща приказка. Не ми хареса колкото първата, но с интерес ще продължа поредицата. Прочитът беше средна работа.
