Oh, things are picking up! We get insight as to what the psychos' deals are and it enlightens so many little elements in the previous books, and it all gets topped up not only with Pet learning the ropes probably much faster than any of the psychos expected her to learn (never underestimate humans, methinks), but that ending? Very satisfying, because as much as I like the dynamic between Pet and the psychos, I feel like everyone's development is moving in the right direction.
(You know, I was planning on reading the first 5 books and the rest later, but I'm starting to wonder if that will even be possible.)

We are back in business, baby! This book picks up right where the last one left off in a cliffhanger (Pet and Detective Tuatu heading Between) and is much, much more interesting.
Someone is ripping hearts out of folks and it maybe a Behindkin. Zero, Athelas, and JinYeong can no longer stop Pet from helping them investigate, grabbing items from Between (like sticks) and convincing them they are guns, and basically revealing to others the usual Behindkin magic doesn't exactly work on her.
But no answers yet ;) Although the hinting is non-stop in this book as it looks like the murders are directed around folks related to the heirlings and the politics of a possible changeover to the fae King of Behind.
What makes this series keep me reading on is that between all tea/coffee cuppas, weirdly low key teasing/dialogue amongst the three psychos, etc, is Pet's indomitable curiousity and bravery in the face of really scary fae things that go bump in the night.
Here she gets to go after the things that bump, which makes it interesting, and also develops some relationships with Zero (when he's fae-drunk) and JinYeong (interesting development in their relationship right near the end) that still reeks of innocence.
Pet makes a pretty fateful decision at the end of this book, and I'm hoping the next book will reveal her new bed-ridden friend Morgana's secrets :)

Fourth book in W.R. Gingell's City Between series. This one has been my favorite so far -- some major character development happens plus there are some intriguing new characters in the mix. The mystery plot was also fun, but I'm just here for the characters. I can't wait to see what happens with them in the next book.

Another wild ride!
-Yay for obscure mythological creatures! I'd never heard of a certain creature before and the Wikipedia page about it actually mentions this book. :)
-For some reason the creepiness got to me more in this book? Idk, maybe it was listening to this at midnight in the dark and hearing Morgana say, "everyone was asleep, and then the door to my room opened..."
-I'm so proud of Pet. I really admire characters (and real people too, for that matter) who stand for their convictions despite the consequences. Spending time with Behindkind has rubbed off on her, but we also see her compassion too.
-short review this time, but I really do love this series. I'm getting more invested in this world and characters than I have with other series for a while, I'll probably draw fanart at some point :)

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD! Pet is maturing, things are changing, ALL the things happen, I laughed, I cried, and I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE LAST BOOK and was expecting a neat bit of explanation and wrapup. I was caught up in the story and forgot to keep an eye on the percentage remaining and then I turned the last page and SO MANY QUESTIONS remain and book 5 doesn't come out for months. I'm dying here.
