Some bad books are entertaining, this one wasn't. I expected the noncon bc the main snake is a walking red flag that doesn't take "no" for an answer
It's alien smut! Why make it boring? And unsexy?

To be fair, when it comes to an "alpha" love interest, I am fussy with what I can tolerate. I don't mind when the MMC is an asshole at first, but what I like to see is some character development along the way. You know, when key plot beats make him realise that he actually greatly respects the FMC and her opinion on things? I like that. It shows growth.
This doesn't happen in Viper and, furthermore, I struggled to ship the relationship because it was all physical and not emotional and/or intellectual. Less exposition/info-dumping and a little more dialogue could have served this narrative well. Again, I suppose this qualm of mine is a preference thing. I like my spice with a side of non-physical connection, too.
Also, speaking of spice, this book should have some trigger warnings listed either at the front or on the author's website. The majority of the smut here is blatant dub-con that often goes into non-con territory. Labelling the MMC as "alpha" on the blurb doesn't mean that readers should expect non-con. Alpha males and consent are not mutually exclusive.
Say it with me: trigger warnings make reading a safer and more enjoyable place for everyone! There's no excuse for recent releases not to have them.
My last minor irritation with this novel was that the exposition was gratuitous at times. Much too often, during conversations, the dialogue would be frequently interrupted by multiple paragraphs of the POV character's inner monologue. To the point where sometimes I would have to skip back to even remember what was said by the time we get the reply. Too much exposition interrupts the flow of the dialogue and drags the pacing.Ā
Graphic: Sexual content
Moderate: Sexual assault, Confinement, and Toxic relationship
Minor: Rape
The majority of the smut here is non-consensual by modern standards. Arousal does not equal consent and the FMC says no to the MMC's advances multiple times, but he ignores her.savviecake's review
