I wanted to like this book, I really did. But it was about 200 pages too long for me, and I felt like the ending was rushed.

I wasn't sure where this book was going in the beginning, since Olivia (who is the world's shortest FMC) absolutely HATED Carter and everything about him, but suddenly they were in the bedroom at every turn. It just felt very rushed and a little messy to me. Their relationship felt very surface-level and a little stale, and the dreaded third-act breakup felt very sudden and extraneous, and I felt like the resolution was kind of glossed over, but I'm not sure it will be addressed in later books (we shall see!).

This part is just a personal nitpick, but I wasn't a fan of how the hockey scenes were written. I am an avid hockey fan, I used to have season tickets to my hometown team with my dad, I know the sport! And the parts of the guys talking to the ladies during games and warmups just didn't jive with me (don't even get me started on the Stanley Cup Playoffs part).

The same problem kept coming up every chapter, there was no progression of the story for 100 pages (probably longer but is stopped reading). I kept getting frustrated cause it felt like everything was unfinished. Like the chapter would start with something happening and then it would skip to something else entirely. It felt like there was no continuity. A lot of the characters also felt 1 dimensional and very childish for full grown adults. I did like that she was a teacher but her relationship with her students was weird (like them trying to flirt with her and she just brushes it off or them commenting on her getting f*cked …, weird) I will say, Carters character was well written and I really liked his relationship with his friends and the old man (Hank I think?). It is readable but way too long and I lost patience.

1. this was unnecessarily long, it could’ve been 300 pages shorter and it would’ve been fine
2. he refers to his dick as his sword of thunder

I really loved this book!! It definitely felt like a Wattpad/fan fiction style of writing that I know not everyone enjoys but I really did! I fell in love with Ollie straight away but was very weary of Carter at first. I wasn’t a big fan of how Carter was not taking Ollie’s no in the beginning of the book. Due to that and just how much Ollie being short was brought up I had to dock my rating a star. As someone of around the same hight, it does often come up but it just felt a bit excessive at sometimes. I still very much enjoyed the book, and am looking forward to continuing the series!!

Relatively easy romance read. Pacing is a bit off at times, especially after the halfway point: some parts feel really long and other parts happen too quickly. No major plot with a fast developing romance which I thoroughly enjoyed.

A couple of clunky sentences which could have done with a revision (typos, wonky wording, clearly edited sentences with a word change but the original word was left in). But still enjoyable.

Sword of thunder 🤢🤣
