This was fun to read. Their meet-cute was adorable, the sex that followed hot. I mean, who hasn’t wanted to have sex in public with a hot cowboy? Their second encounter was funny and again, hot inventive sex. These two definitely don’t lack sexual chemistry and it is clear sex is a medium for communication, these two saying with their bodies what they can’t/won’t with their mouths (double entendre not intended). I love that their sex is safe sex, every time.
Dex seems like a stand-up guy. He’s a smokin’ hot country music star, but he appears humble and down to earth. His interactions with Sydney are genuine and gentle.
Sydney seems to believe the media hype around Dex eagerly and quickly and doesn’t give him the benefit of the doubt because he doesn’t outwardly deny anything. He doesn’t admit to anything either. There is nothing we learn about her that implies a reason for this distrust, other than he’s famous and there are magazine pictures of him.
I liked Sydney’s integrity; not wanting to use her connection to Dex to propel her career, refusing the label representative who propositioned her. I wish she had told the judge about the label rep judge and what he’d done and why he likely voted against her.
Dex going out on his own to sing a risky song was a lovely moment. Sydney's mix of pride and confusion was interesting. She seems to want Dex to be true to his passion but she still seems swept away by the razzle-dazzle of stardom. This is never more evident than when she simultaneously roots for Dex singing his own song and thinking he should stick with what he does well for the fame.
This makes her giving up her dreams of a singing career to write with Dex a tad out of character for her unless she sings with him and her band reached fame also, but this isn't explored. Nevertheless, the final scene led to a sweet ending and a nice epilogue.

It just doesn't make sense to me how two people can "fall in love" when the only kind of relationship they've ever had is a sexual one except for maybe one night of the five they have together before expressing their feelings for each other.

Sydney and Dex share a steamy one night stand together.

That's it - until singer/songwriter Sydney sneaks backstage one night at a country gig to give her demo to a producer. Instead of a producer, she meets Dex, who is now on his way to superstardom - and they're all over each other again.

This was fine - I wanted pure escapism and I got it. I didn't like Sydney and I didn't like the humming and hawing over whether she wanted to be with Dex or not. I'm usually a fan of the will-they-won't-they stuff but this was more kinda shit-or-get-off-the-pot.

It was fine, it distracted me during an otherwise difficult week so I was grateful to have it!
