This wasn’t my favorite but it wasn’t bad. The pacing was off for me, I felt the beginning was very slow but I enjoyed the story once it took off. Didn’t have the banter that I love with a Brynne Weaver book but it was angsty enough to get the job done.

This was my first dual author book, but my third Brynne Weaver read. It was very true to her typical voice, so I can only assume that Wolfe's style is very similar and I should add her works to my TBR as well!

This story features two forensics professors who also both happen to be serial killers. The colleagues are rivals in any sense of the word, and come together only to take out a common threat as suspicions rise. From there, sparks fly, bodies drop, and their connected past catches up to them. It was unsurprisingly gorey, occasionally funny, and had the perfect amount of spice 🤌

“i wouldn’t just kill for kyrie—i would give my life. hell, i’d even let her take it.”

the separation between memories and real life is a little unclear, and i was unsure as to whether or not i’d finish this book after the first few chapters. however, i am so very glad i did. kyrie is a more developed character as her characterisation relates to her past, whereas jack isn’t as thoroughly developed. i loved the cat and mouse game that they played and how all of their pieces fell together in the end. definitely looking forward to reading more books by these authors!

Pretty morbid and macabre in places because of the detail (even for a serial killer book) but a cool plot and different setting with enough background and character development to feel realistic. Loved the weird build up of their relationship and the ending was adorable. Well written!

i’m having the hardest time trying to rate this book. on the one hand, for the plot and development of the story? i would easily give it a 4.5. on the other hand, the smut alone gets a 1-star rating. as much as i loved how the story unraveled, how the characters’ relationship developed, and how their pasts were revealed, and watching the way everything fell into place, it’s something i’d want to recommend.

TWO RIVAL SERIAL KILLERS? C’MON, HOW COULD I NOT BE INTRIGUED??

but they fucked in a dead guy’s blood AND next to his body. and it’s disconcerting, especially since it happened twice 🥴
i knew going in that this wasn’t going to be a sweetheart read that i could breeze through, i knew there would be gore and violence, and these characters aren’t outstanding people, but Jesus FUCK the smut was depraved. not like i was reading it for the smut anyways, but there was a point when i felt things escalating sexually i just skimmed until i was past it because i didn’t want another fucking jump-scare.

Kyrie and Jack’s story was GRIPPING! i love how they toyed with each other, their characterizations were remarkably detailed,
and i loved the emphasis on the color of Kyrie’s eyes.
i liked their games and the way the story unfolded which is why i’m pissed i had to bypass
them fucking in blood next to a dead body
just to get through the story.

i have friends i know would love the Crime and Murder aspect of this and their work within their facility, but i won’t recommend this simply because i don’t want them to tweak out on me about the smut scenes.

I spent the first 30% of this book highly confused and then spent the next 70% as someone who questioned the main characters and their questionnaire kinks, and thinking that they were actually kinda sweet together (I’m their own murderous ways).
But the writing of this book? Absolutely brilliant.

💀 serial killer romance

Who the eff knew serial killer romances would become my favorite thing!? It’s like horror, thrillers, and romance wrapped up into one. Wolfe & Weaver have seriously honed in on that genre and are DOMINATING it. This book was brilliantly written by this infamous duo.

Marrow is a rival serial killer romance. These two love to hate each other. For example, he pisses her off so she tases and sedates him to frame him for murder.

This book was too unbelievable. I loved every minute of it. If I didn’t believe Wolfe & Weaver weren’t two of my favorite authors before, I do now. Their content is so unique. Their characters are morally grey vigilantes who take on lovable golden retriever qualities. Who would have thought I’d say that about SERIAL KILLERS!?

The quick, witty banter is top notch in this book. If you loved the Darkly, Madly Duet, or Butcher & Blackbird, this novel is a great mix of both. Super spicy. A touch of horror. And a sprinkle of psychology. That’s also how I know Trisha had a hand in this book. She is an artist when it comes to the psychology of dark romances. Where Brynne shines is in the grumpy x sunshine banter, oh and her love for piercings.

Okay, shutting up now. Just go read this now!!!

This book was incredible! Who knew murder could be so sexy. I wish I could read it again for the first time. I read Butcher and Blackbird first and thought that was a little spicy and scandalous with the murder thrown in. This was more so! Highly recommend if you can handle dark romance.
