RATING: 3 STARS

I rated this book a three but I had a hard time rating this one. This is not a bad series but I am just not feeling the characters or plot. I am going to call it on this series.

The daughter of a notorious Russian spy, Scarlett Stone is determined to prove her father's innocence. To that end, she infiltrates the Russian embassy to plant a listening device in the ambassador's office unwittingly interfering with an FBI investigation. Targeted by both the Russians and the FBI, Scarlett finds herself relying on former Navy SEAL and current FBI profiler Matt Lazlo to keep her safe. But as the net tightens, Scarlett and Matt suspect a traitor in their midst.

An exciting suspense plot and an enjoyable romance even though the heroine is somewhat TSTL.

The Russian traitor angle is compelling and called to mind the case of Robert Hanssen with a twist, i.e., Scarlett's father is innocent. Although the Russians are the obvious villains, and their actions are disgusting, the primary mystery revolves around the identity of the FBI mole. This element is well-written and keeps the reader guessing.

One troubling aspect, however, is the unnecessary inclusion of the
Spoilerfaked rape scene
, which adds nothing to either plot or characterization as
Spoilerthe victim is unconscious and the photos taken by the rapist are never mentioned again in the book
.

In terms of the romance, Matt and Scarlett have great chemistry, especially during their initial interactions. Their reactions to one another after Scarlett's true identity is revealed are realistic and believable. The inlcusion of cameo roles by Alex Parker and Mallory Rooney from book #1 is an added bonus.

Overall, a good addition to the series.

Super duper quick read but surprisingly complex for such a short book. I have always been a fan of political spy stories and this gave me that without being too heavy or too detailed. Plus I enjoyed the twist. Frankly the ending was SUPER GRATIFYING. This actually makes me think of American cop shows. Action packed, romance packed, and largely entertaining.

I liked the fact that all the characters (secondary included) were super likable. It’s a good balanced cast. The writer is also good at shifting perspectives while keeping the story flow consistent. Pacing was obviously quite fast, and the romance was also very fast lol. It’s basically insta-love which I normally do not enjoy, but I can forgive it in this case since from the start the author did make it clear this is a romance novel. I appreciate however that she made quite an effort to establish to the reader the connection the characters felt each other that made them fall head over heels in love quickly. I like both characters separately so it wasn’t that hard to like them together.

Honestly you can’t really go into this sort of novel super seriously. Just enjoy the ride! I know I did!

This was the perfect fit to this box set.
Not only do we see a fresh new couple and all the things they get in to, to save the one you’re trying to protect. But we get to see some of our old favorites, Alex and Mallory! Yay.

Now FBI Special Agent Matt Lazlo bumps in to a pretty lady literally.
He wants to see more of her. But it wasn’t meant to be… Or was it?
Scarlett Stone is on a mission free her father from all charges before he passes. So she has a plan only the plan doesn’t go as planned.. Does it ever?
I can tell you I will not look at a screw driver the same again lol. That was pretty epic.

This book is full of surprises. You always guessing and wanting to know who? What? And why
I kind of like how bold Scarlett is even when she is scared out of her mind. She goes after what she wants. But Matt is more cautions, you can’t blame him for that but it was nice to see that him give in.

Here is a line I love and can’t get out of my head.
“A rubber stamped goat f*ck”

Yeah I really enjoyed this box set and the narrator. Wow blew me away, I loved his voice and how you just feel a part of the story because of him. Yeah worth the money the credit worth it all

This is book #3 in the Cold Justice series.
Scarlet wanted to prove her father was innocent. She met Matt and felt things. Matt was intrigued by her. Lots of twists and turns in this book. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Dull & Boring
I didn't find any typos etc. in my copy. I read some reviews from 2016 that said they were in their copy. So, either I missed them or the author updated the book and they no longer exist in the eBooks.

One of my reasons for giving this 3 stars is the mc's. Both Scarlett and Matt were boring. I didn't hate them or anything like that. There were a couple of redeeming qualities to both of them, but mostly they were tedious and tiresome. Scarlett mostly apologized and cried. Matt was so deep in denial and uptight I wanted to smack him.

My next problem is it seemed like everyone but Scarlett & Matt were doing something. They mostly just ran around hiding. So much so I was reminded of the old children's song
'Where is Thumbkin?'.

The excessively repetitive thoughts and actions of both Scarlett & Matt drove me nuts.
The plot was good. At points the suspense and mystery were well written. But every time it started to get interesting it would quickly descend back to dull and boring.

As far as the romance, there really isn't much there. It, like the main characters, had very little intensity or passion. There is just enough of one scene to make this 'Adult', but barely.

I'm unsure if I will continue this series. I want intensity, suspense and passion in my books. I want them to demand my attention.

The first 2 books got me caught up in this series. This one poisoned it & I don't know if there is a vaccine.
