i did not expect this. i enjoyed it so much.
grumpy turns soft like ??? yes please.
after like 60% it also took a surprisingly possessive turn, which i definitely appreciated. you know me, i’m easy. and the last part? a literal dream.

“You’re my honey bee. He can find his own fucking hive.”

There were so many weird time jumps, no plot apart from the meetings the two MCs had like there was nothing happening in their lives apart from that, no getting to know the MCs better and simply little to no dialogue.
To me this felt like the weird 10 minutes of attempted story you skip before the good parts of the porn start. I said what I said.

Absolutely adored this story! I wish I could buy a physical copy!

Grumpy-sunshine? Perfectly executed. Dislike to lovers? A+. The spice? Hatchi matchi, I will never look at cookie frosting the same and I’m okay with that!!

But for real, this story was sweet but steamy. The characters were written so well and I fell in love with all of them. There was no ridiculous miscommunications. There was so much Christmas cheer. Just good vibes my friends. I really really really hope this comes out in print at some point because I want to reread this one and have it in my collection of books!

DNF at 19 %. The writing style is not working for me and I just can't read another five page exposition of the MC's thoughts instead of actually watching them interact with each other.

Oh this was cute!
First and foremost these MCs were the absolute most precious things on this planet and I just loved them and wished the world for them. I also appreciated how REALISTIC these characters and their problems were, throughout most of the book I felt connected to them (Baxter especially) because J could completely relate to how they felt. The anxiety representation was incredibly well written and relatable AF, as was that feeling of losing your identity by being a parent. Like I said, real and relatable AF. I had a few issues with the language being a little cringey around times, but my absolute love and adoration for Baxter and Paxton ran deep!

Tropes:
- Small town romance
- Size difference
- Grumpy x sunshine
- Slow burn
- Found family
- Single dad(s)

Let Your Hearts Be Light is the fluffiest, coziest, and tooth achingly sweetest holiday romance I’ve come across this holiday season, and I am OBSESSED.

I’m a total sucker for the grumpy x sunshine trope and watching Baxter, the kindest and most warm-hearted person, tentatively form a friendship with Paxton, the town grump, all because their kids forced them into it for a school activity… LOVED!

Paxton was just so distrustful of anyone who seemed to be as happy and put together as Baxter, but the more he got to know him and see past that happy exterior, the more he realizes how much he misjudged Baxter (and how much of a dick he’s been

This was very very good and I’d love to read another story set in the same world!! I had very high hopes because the cover is absolutely gorgeous, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The sex was SO hot. Like oh my god hi icing on the cake of a delicious romance!! It was also pretty slow burn, at least it felt that way. I think sexual things started around 50%. I really loved the grumpy/sunshine of the book and the TENSION. Wow I was hanging onto every word for dear life.

The relationship dynamic though was just a bit too daddy kink for me? Like they never said daddy but when one character is presented as so vulnerable and the other one "sweethearts" them like crazy, I choke on the sweetness just a bit. And before Paxton did a 180°, he was a bit too pointlessly grumpy, at times veering into just plain asshole for no good reason. Overall, it worked though and that only lasted for the first fifth of the book.

The rest of the book really dealt with being a parent as they were both single dads, and that did lose some of my attention. I loved their kids and how they all became a family, I just kinda glazed over the hardships of being a parent sections lol.

The writing was very good. It made for a very fluffy and very fun book, while still guiding you through complex emotions. Overall, I grabbed a few more books by the author and hope we get another story next Christmas! And other holidays too!!
