Lio and Cassia's story is so good, this is the second book of the Blood Grace series, you need to start with book one first to really understand the story. I like the world-building, the characters, some quite interesting and refreshing, I think it has a great description, sometimes it got to be a bit too much, but can't deny the whole story and characters made me fall in love and now I can't wait to find out what happens next, there is so much mystery behind it and so many answers I need. Definitely one series I recommend if you love so many different type of characters in a story.

You can find this review of Blood Solace on my blog, Heart's Content!

Received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

A big shout out to Haley @TheCaffeinatedReader for buddy reading this book with me. I had so much fun and I can’t wait to buddy read book three with you! ❤

I was very excited to dive into the second book in the Blood Grace series. Vela Roth’s writing and the world she creates with it is a tempting place to get lost into. The ending of Blood Mercy leaves the readers guessing as to what could possibly happen with the characters who are now beloved.

Blood Solace, to my surprise, does not pick up immediately after the ending of previous books. However, for the most part the book certainly fills in all the parts we may have missed timeline wise.

This book, like it’s predecessor, narrates in dual POV. The two worlds are vastly different and there’s never a moment to confuse the two perspectives at any point, which for me is one of the biggest pluses when there’s a dual POV.

The writing is unique and Vela’s style is almost something I’m starting to recognise in her words and especially the way she designs the emotion and respect behind each scene. If there’s one thing I’ll highly praise Vela for, it’s her ability to ensure that the characters are in constant respect for one another; and even something that could validate action isn’t done without the consent of the characters involved. The maddening flip side to this is as a reader when situations drive you up the wall you can’t even curse at anyone or anything because everything is so justified and respectful! *cries in slow motion*

The world building was heavy in this book as well. Typically in the second book you don’t expect there to be further world building that’s as dense as the first, but that too was justified because of the setting. However, the information at certain points becomes a lot, which creates a lull in the story and staggers the pace a little.

The plot, in comparison to the first book was not particularly evident and it eventually became clear that this book is possibly setting up stage for the next book in the series. Given that it’s a ten book series, I can understand that there’s going to be a lot of story building that needs to be done within the series to keep the plot thread going. However, the more emotional sides of the story took the forefront and watching the characters (not just the protagonists) reveal and share vulnerable moments with one another.

One of my issues were that there was a sudden influx of characters, names and titles and it was a mild whiplash because I couldn’t make sense or who was who and by the time I had, another two were introduced. However, this was only true in one setting, whereas another setting was a lot more familiar and comfortable (to my surprise). Another of my issues was the pace. The first book was slow in the beginning and picks you around 50% and flies past. But this book was slow, then picked up, then slowed down again. This was a little difficult for me because it brings down my motivation to read. But bless Haley’s soul for all the company and giggles.

Four stars! Happy reading and stay safe.

A lovely slow burn (again?) low stakes and still fantasy forward with good romance.

cannot believe lio fed from cassia's feet before her pussy we truly live in a society

another fun installment that had me giggling and blushing like a fool ! this was so cute. I loved getting to know lio's family, how supportive they were was so refreshing for the genre. I also enjoyed the baby amount of angst we got in this

cassia's intros with the hesperines kind of bothered me, like for example cassia exchanges 2 lines of dialogue with mak and lyros and is like omg i have brothers idk it just felt very insta love but in a found family way. i also am getting huge red flags set off that cassia is going to come into some extremely op old magic powers i am praying i'm wrong bc i praised the first book so much for her lack of mary sue-ness but T.T

3.75 leaning towards 4

I think compared to book one this one is pretty much all filler. HOWEVER, my ducklings, this is lovely filler. You get to appreciate the genius of Vela Roth’s dialogue choices and you get to yell at both MC’s for being stupid babies

There is angst and there is romance and found family and political intrigue and court drama

It builds the world appropriately and I will be diving right into book three with a swim cap and little nose plug and I will swim in the waters of Hesperine love

Anyways
Read these books
Or don’t
I’m not your mama
