An engrossing crime / thriller with a satisfying number of twists & turns. Main characters are likeable & the setting in Germany makes the plot a bit different.

I was unaware that this was a book in a series until writing the review, but lacking that knowledge and the previous stories did not distract from the main story of the book, although now I understand why some of the details of the main characters seemed to be missing.

The story is slow to start and it isn't until more than half way through the book that it becomes compelling. The quantity of characters also made the story hard to follow, remember who was who, how they were connected, etc.

All in all, it was ok, but I wasn't blown away as other reviewers have been. I probably won't pick up the rest of the series.

Absolutely amazing only took me 2 days to read. This was a find in the German book section of my local library in the UK. Absolute page turner.

Snow White Must Die was just the kind of thrilling mystery I was looking to read during a recent snow storm that left me housebound. Completely captivating, without too many grisly details, I was compelled to snuggle up and read all day.

Tobias has served his time for the murder of two girls, his former girlfriends, and is returning to the small village where his father still lives. Tobias has every intention of settling back into his quiet life but his mother is pushed from an overpass and is in the hospital. There are graffiti threats on his barn and the villagers taunt him wherever he goes. The police begin investigating the attempted murder of his mother and come across some inconsistencies in the original case. Did Tobias actually murder the girls ten years earlier?

Nele Neuhaus, the international bestselling author, is successful at creating the sinister situation and casting doubt on nearly every character in the village. Adept at sharing the right details, the characters and setting come alive and become more than just stock characters. Even the detectives are alive with details from their personal lives. Well plotted with just enough foreshadowing and clues to keep you guessing until the very end, Snow White Must Die is impossible to put down.

Flat, flat, flat. I did not finish this uninteresting novel because I could not care about any of the one-dimensional characters or their wretched village. The premise is good, but the un-inflected writing (or perhaps translation) is tiresome to read and could not impel this reader to the end.

I've been a fan of so many of the new trend for Euro mysteries that the limpness of this book is a huge disappointment after the big ramp up. The detectives are the most interesting characters in the novel but even they are not fleshed out enough to make you care. There's a lot of other good reading in this genre out there to enjoy--my advice? Look elsewhere. Lars Kepler or Jussi Adler-Olsen (especially "Keeper of Lost Causes") are much more satisfying in plotting, the chill factor, and characters you long to know more about.
