Figured I would give it a chance since I didn’t really like the first book.

This one unfortunately I found was even MORE draining.

DNF @ page 5.

Sorry to say I won’t be picking up any more novels. The podcast is excellent as well as the transcript books.

picked this up on a whim because it's been on my kindle since high school and why not, you know?
i was actually quite surprised at how delightful this absurd little novel was! i used to be a huge fan of the welcome to night vale podcast and its eerie existential humor, and this book delivered exactly that. it's not something i would have picked up if it hadn't already been on my kindle, but i ended up having a really good time reading it! if you're a fan of the podcast, you'll definitely like this. it's exactly the right amount of ridiculous touched with musings on the wonder and terror of humanity. a sometimes creepy, definitely strange, and always fun story about science experiments gone wrong and giant centipede gods. we love to see it. :)

Quality of Writing: 8
Pacing: 7
Characterization: 6
Plot: 5
Ending: 7

The only real note I have is I have mixed feelings about the ending. It didn’t feel like an ending, and that’s probably because it’s based off a podcast so it didn’t really end there.
Spoiler I liked how the two main characters didn’t really have the “and they all lived happily ever after” ending, and I think it’s important to acknowledge that just because two people like each other and want to be together doesn’t mean it will work out, and it’s nobody’s fault and that’s ok.

I completely forgot how good Nightvale is! It has been 8 years since I last read / heard anything from that small mysterious town. This is my jam, almost exactly. Their bizarre deadpan humor vibes with me exactly.

This book was surprisingly deep as well! It had a very well thought out exploration of religion, belief, and community, positioned among all the horror of a monster devouring the town. I loved it!

Fun sci-fi read. Hooked me in the beginning, lulled in the middle, but picked back up at the end. Liked the ending. Curious to check out the authors other books about Night Valley and their podcasts.
