Boring, unnecessarily long winded. Had high hopes of being caught up in a new world of magic at school. Was not the case.

Underlying message is good. Does not live up to the hype.

Too arcane. I know arcane is literally in the subtitle, but this was just too melancholy for my current mood.

Robin is taken from his home after the rest of his family passes away, and whisked into a world that is unfamiliar other than what he has read in books. The dream of becoming a translator at Oxford is dangled in front of him as a carrot to follow the expectations of his 'sponsor' Professor Lovell. Once he has arrived at school Robin is quickly drawn into a secret society that opposes what they are doing in the translation tower of Babel at Oxford. What will Robin decide to do?

While this story is largely based on the fact that 'magic' can be performed with the use of silver bars and language, it did feel secondary to the characters and plot, so even non-fantasy lovers would probably enjoy this one. A very interesting commentary on language and power as well! While it is long the pace did not at all feel slow.
