Bad: Lack of chemistry between the characters. Very, VERY rushed romance. None of the characters are interesting.
Ugly: This book is advertised as "cute" and "heart melting". The author even describe the male lead as a "sweet cinnamon roll". So imagine my surprised when the male lead acts like a borderline rapist when he first encounters the female lead.
Listen I get it, there are people who are really into this "toxic alpha male" stuff. Fine, live your truth. However, I think it's fair for me not expect the cute cinnamon roll to "aggressively try to keep the heroine from escaping, threaten to stalk, actually stalk her, slutshame a random, etc"
It gets even worse when the book tries to address serious issues. Spoiler: The female lead had a toxic ex who pressured her into having anal sex. That's obviously bad. By why does the toxic ex gets the finger wag and not the male lead who literally was pressuring the woman to go out with him?
Honestly, is just a mess. You're promise a cute romcom and get a poorly handle message about sex violence and family enstrangment.

I liked the pegging with his own removable penis. I can't believe I wrote that.
Also a bit too busy. It felt like there was six characters in this book which was SO MUCH.
Also contains a very dark part on purity culture and forced adoption and non consensual sex (in FMC past).

🌟 Monster Romance
🌈 Latine Heroine
🌶 Tentacles
Okay so I thought we were all on the same page with regards to CWs nowadays after ALLLLLLLL the discourse on various social media platforms? I could've been doing with one here bro. Major trigger for me is miscarriage/baby loss/pregnancy in danger, that sort of vibe. Seems like a reasonable enough CW, no? Like it's an obvious one. So imagine me, having not processed properly my own pregnancy loss, being jump scared with a pregnancy in danger with no warning signs that it might happen in what I thought was going to be a fairly light hearted monster romance...
That aside, this was a strange one for me. It felt like so many heavier topics were being brought in (see CWs above), but they didn't really stick. I felt the forced adoption/purity culture aspect was completely relevant to the story. It gave us a reason for the heroine's actions, thoughts, and feelings towards relationships. However, something about it didn't work for me so much with how the story chopped and changed from light hearted to deep back and forth.
This wasn't my favourite monster romance I've ever read, I just feel like I didn't connect with either character in any meaningful way and the romance didn't feel like it flowed quite as well as it could have. In a longer format it could've potentially worked better with the space to allow it to develop, so I think it was the pacing for me more than anything.

Meanwhile, our monster is Chaos, who’s a Cthulhu, and let me tell you, I struggle with the pronunciation of this thing. But after I looked up his pictures, I remembered Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean so much. Chaos has a lot going on in his life because he’s also a scientist. Still, his research is for his people, and he’s determined to find a way that he does not have to be a victim of his biology. The way these two meet is HILARIOUS! Even though the book wasn’t bad, it went down the predictable route.
Moderate: Child abuse, Sexual content, Abandonment, and Classism

It seems like it tries to have some serious plot elements and character backstory but the characters are so stilted and their conversations so awkward. The FMC does not act like I'd expect someone with her history or personality to act most of the time. I almost DNFd but it was so short I realized I was nearly at the end and finished only to roll my eyes at the wrap up.
Spice wise, it's not nearly as fun and interesting as I was hoping. A lot of opportunities to do something interesting were left on the table. Yeah, he can detach the thing, but then he has zero sensation in it? ... alright? Also the aspects of cthulu biology focused on heavily in the series were serious mood killers.
