The writing style was fine but I just didn't enjoy the storyline. I was happy with the large volume of characters but everything went nowhere very slowly. 😄

Easy reading as usual.
Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail

Entering my reviews over from my old Goodreads profile I unearthed recently...here are some super sappy thoughts from 2011-era 16-year-old Claire!

Boy, did I love this book! Despite the myriad of characters, I managed to identify with each and every one of them. Noble does a spectacular job of making the reader sympathize with and invest in all the characters. Charlotte and Emily in particular drew me in, but Eve's story, heartbreaking as it may have been, was what sealed the deal with me. Splendid ensemble novel.

I thought the narrative was strongest with Eve and Violet. The other characters felt superfluous at times. I don’t think this book was marketed properly, though. Definitely not the read I thought it would be, however I did enjoy it. But it looks like romance/chick-lit and it is much meatier than that. Which normally I would appreciate more than the fluff of chick-lit, except I had prepared for chick-lit and then it was hard for my brain to readjust as I started reading. Some of the writing with certain characters was hokey, but there was a lot of strong writing with others, like Rachel, and Kim and Jason. But Violet and Eve were the most substantial by far. I found myself wishing the book had only focused on their storylines.

Interesting cast of characters and intertwining stories of a group of people living in an apartment building in NYC.

I liked the last half better---there were just far too many characters to keep straight and then most of them didn't matter the rest of the book.

"'...She's not the sit-on-my-lap-and-I'll-read-you-a-story sort of granny. But she is the trust-fund, college-tuition-paid, mansion-on-Nantucket kind of granny. I expect that's been enough for them."
