I read this out loud to my 6-year-old son and my 4-year old daughter occasionally listened, but wasn't as enthralled by it as some others we have read. My son did pay attention, but I felt he also wasn't as interested as others.

I think this is a book for a very confident young reader, as the entire book was only 6 chapters long and each chapter was about 30+ pages - much too long for a reader new to chapter books. This was not a page-turner, in that each chapter sort of had its own plot that wrapped up by the end. I wish I had known this was #5 in a series that we had only read #1 of. I just picked another one with Henry in the title by Cleary, that the library had at the time. I also have "Henry and Ribsy", which we are going to read next, but if it's no better than this one, we probably won't read any more "Henry books".

Love, love love these books! This one's a great addition to the continuing story of Henry, his friends, family and, of course, Ribsy!

Another fantastic book about Henry Huggins! This book ended on such a high note that towards the end, I just couldn't stop smiling.

It's true the book is about Henry building his clubhouse, but the title easily could have been Henry and Ramona. I loved seeing Ramona play a bigger role in this book, and I especially enjoyed reading about her relationship with Henry. Even though Ramona is generally considered the neighborhood pest, she really redeems herself in the last couple chapters of this book. She is downright endearing! (Especially if you read an edition illustrated by Tracy Dockray.)

As usual, I just loved Henry Huggins. He is so resourceful and hard-working! Just an all-around really good kid. He knows the value of a good idea, he understands the importance of seeing things through (even if it's something you don't want to do, but you know you have to do it), and he takes pride in his work. He's not perfect, and we see how he struggles with Ramona, who bugs him a lot. But instead of just complaining about her, he finds a solution - and not just any solution! A really ingenious one!

Another great book read with Samuel. He rates it 5/5 because it’s about friendship, working hard, and loved the funny part with the Sherrif Bud tv show and Ramona.

I quite liked this one - except for Henry dressing up like an "angry Indian" for Halloween.

Henry decides to build a clubhouse with his friends and has to balance working on that with his paper route. Ramona decides to follow henry on his paper route and he must cope with this as well. He learns to value both beezus and Ramona. There’s also a running joke about a mistaken name that cracked my 6 yo up every time.

Henry and the Clubhouse by Beverly Cleary – Now the real question is why Henry thinks he can keep Ramona out of anything she has a mind to meddle in? It does make for a funny story! Happy Reading!
