I can't believe it's taken me this long to read anything by Roxane Gay, but dang this hit hard. It's fascinating how this was a memoir but based totally around her body: the trauma her body was subjected to, her self image, her weight, her ability to love and be loved, and mental health, it all harkens back to her body. There's a lot of tough subject matter, and it hits so dang hard.

Reading this felt like I was in a conversation between friends that I shouldn't have been a part of nor should have heard. Roxane Gay was so honest, so raw, and so vulnerable in Hunger
Spoiler as she relayed to readers the aftermath of her SA and how she worked through it by building a fortress out of her own body.

Personally, Chapter 57 (tw: eating disorder) hit too close to home. I read each word and felt a lump forming in my throat. How did she know? Is she just like me? Am I not alone?

How does one even rate a memoir? How does one person rate another person's art when it consists of them baring their entire soul to you? 5 stars, inspired work.
