A friends to lovers romance that starts from a childhood pen pal assignment definitely caught my attention. I really enjoyed the letters element of this story and how obsessed the MMC was. I feel like the discussion on mental health was rather realistic though some of the elements frustrated me at times. Doc’s quirkiness with the birdwatching was adorable and made me more connected to the character than I realized.

Authentic and emotional
The story completely swept me away. The characters are layered and easily connectable. Everything flowed together smoothly and drew me in.

This book was fucking delightful. Not at all what I was expecting, because the title is definitely a bit misleading.
The characters are top-notch. I adore Doc and his love of birds.
Griffin is a dreamboat. A gift from the literary gods. The book boyfriend to end all book boyfriends. The bit of spice in this book was top-notch, as well.
The only thing I would have loved to have is more letters from before their 8-year "break". But overall, wonderful read. And it's available on KU.

Since they clearly fell in love with each other when they were younger, it would have been nice to see some of that development.katesreadingkorner's review against another edition

This was surprisingly amazing! I went into this book for a quick/smutty read (if that’s what you want, this ain’t it) while it did have good smut, it also dealt with some hard topics such as death of a loved one and mental health issues (+ how they affect ones ability to live a “normal” life) Despite all that, I really enjoyed this.

Beautiful story that had me teary eyed and made me smile.
The FMC's battle with panic attacks and agoraphobia were well done. The MMC was the perfect British book-boyfriend.

Such a beautiful story. Made me laugh and cry. Don't let the title fool you because it's not that spicy. It doesn't matter because the storyline is so amazing

This was more a 3.5 but super cute story dealing with some real life things. While reading the story, I was constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. I’m not usually a fan of stories that make me feel that way but this one had a good storyline that keep me reading. For such a short book, 2 and half days of reading is super long for me; however, it is smack in the middle of a busy holiday.
***** spoilers *****
Luca’s character had me interested from the start. I know someone with a very similar fear so I could relate as someone trying to connect. I would have like to see her become stronger sooner, even though taking the trip out to California to see Griff was brave. The one downside of her character, I didn’t like that she stated herself pretty shit off towards pleasure with someone but had no problem jumping right into pleasuring moments.
Griff has me with his sense of humor. Even though they spoke for many years as kids, I thought it jumped into sex talk way to soon for the type of connections they rekindled. But, once Griff’s love shunned through for her, you could really see it was more than just sex.
Not a book I would reread but one I continue a storyline if there was a second book. Would love to know how she is as a mother.
