Loved this historical work that has a dual timeline, but mostly stays in the past. I like that it didn't jump back and forth too often. Great recommendations at the end of the book for nonfiction reads related to forgers working in France during the Holocaust.

Of course, I love the author's note in the back!

I was not expecting to love this book as much as I do, especially given that historical fiction is not one of my typical genres! I was hooked from the start, and the ending?! - don’t even get me started.

I liked the historical part of the fiction of this book. The main character Ava was a little annoying with all of her struggles that made her wishy-washy. Things like, Oh I’m deeply in love with this man and everything about him is perfect except he’s not Jewish so my mother won’t approve, too bad for me.

I did enjoy the rest of the book. The priest was my favorite character - he made decisions that were the right thing to do. I wish that the ending had focused more on the Book of Lost Names and the people involved there and much less on Ava and her situation.

“Those who realize books are magic… will have the brightest lives”

This book was incredible. A story of a woman named Eva who happens to fall into the important role of a forger during WWII. She creates false identification papers for Jews trying to flee to safety. In the process she saves hundreds of lives. Many of those lives were children. She didn’t want their true identities to be forgotten. Eva and a man named Remy use a code based on the Fibonacci sequence to record their true identities in an old book.

We follow her heartbreaking and heroic role throughout the war. I really enjoyed this book and found myself reading it quickly. If you find historical fiction tough to read, war stories specially, then you might enjoy this one. It’s lighter, not near as heavy hearted as some I have read.
