Loved, loved, loved!!!  Such a wonderful story! Eva Traube Abrams is a librarian in Florida. When she’s at her desk one morning, she sees a picture in a paper nearby and recognizes a book that takes her back over 60 years - The Book of Lost Names - HER book! She used this book as a way to keep track of the names of children who have been shepherded through a small French town on their way to freedom and safety in the horrible years of World War II.

The timeline shifts back and forth between the present and the past as Eva lived it. The reader learns Eva’s history and how the book came to be hers. Eva endures so much hardship as she tries to protect the youngest victims of this horrible war.

You will laugh and cry as you read this book! And find so many lasting human truths that will never change.

Let's start with the positives. The book brought up an important role during WWII, the forgers who helped those escape. I've never read a book from this perspective, and I enjoyed reading the author's note at the end. The problem I had in the book was that it was hard to get into. The character's were hard to connect with. I also found some problematic elements dealing with how the Jewish faith was portrayed. Some other elements where written in that I personally don't enjoy reading about. (There is an open door scene- though it is brief and not very detailed). I just skimmed through. Over all, it was an ok read, but one that was a struggle for me to finish.

I was hooked from the beginning and didn’t lose momentum until the end.

This is a book inspired by the real-life forgers during WWII who helped to create false documents for refugees of the war. And it was beautifully done.

I adored Eva and Rèmy the two main characters of this book. They are not perfect by any means, and I think that only makes them better. It is a story of love, loss, family, and courage. Be prepared to smile and cry many times throughout the book.

The audiobook narrator was also phenomenal - definitely recommend.
