WOW I AM FERAL FOR THESE CHARACTERS!!!!!

Liana De la Rosa has me in a chokehold and I don’t care who knows it. I have been feeling withdrawals from regency era romance (though, my e-reader is packed and my ADHD brain just is overwhelmed with the choices lol) and this was the perfect book to reel me back in and scratch that itch!

I loved Ana’s character development, both when it came to the connection she strengthened with her sisters, and the relationship with herself! She was quite self-aware that her life pre-London had been dictated by her father, and she had seemed resigned to it. However, by the end of the book, I was so proud of not only her acceptance of her new life, but also her taking the reigns and ~*~thriving~*~ THAT’S MY BB!!!!

Mr. Gideon Fox is Mr. Darcy but fights for human f%^*ing rights?! One second, I have to wipe my drool.. Lmao when I usually kick my feet in the air at a cis-het man doing the bare minimum and asking for consent, Gideon had me melting. He was trying to change the damn world, and he reminded Ana of her power too! This couple is so precious, I CANNOT!

Lastly, I will never shut up about diversity in historical romance — YES, BROWN, BLACK, INDIGENOUS, QUEER AND DISABLED FOLKS WERE THERE! THEY DESERVE THEIR GODS DAMN HISTORICAL ROMANCES OKAY?! Thank you Liana for the Mexican & Black representation in this book. Now let’s get a TV adaptation for this too please!!!

Anyway, I appreciated the little sprinkles of Isabel and Gabby’s interactions with the Captain and the Duke, setting them up for their stories next hehe. I will absolutely continue to read this series!

A great debut for a new series!!

Pacing felt slow at the beginning, but then it sped up really fast at the 65% mark, and kept a quicker speed for the remainder of the book. I would have liked more balanced pacing, but it overall did not detract from my experience with the book.

Great characters ✅️
Historical facts supporting diversity in Victorian England ✅️
Marriage of convenience ✅️
Addressing issues of racism, classism, and sexism✅️

I am Mexican American and I also love reading novels set in the Victorian period. This was a great mix of things I love that I typically don't get to see mixed together.

And I want Isa and Dawson's story now please 🙏
