This book started off fantastic. I love how strong a character Finnie is. and it was funny and had a lot of potential. About half way through it became so boring I had to skim read the rest. It was like a cartoon romance novel with heaps of sex scenes. I just didn't care about the people, the storyline and it was really disappointing. I seriously cannot believe there are 5 books in this series.

I like Finnie. I think she's super cute and really fun and I really enjoyed reading about her. I liked the intersection between the parallel worlds, and I thought that was great. I even enjoyed Frey (most of the time).
But here's the thing, this alpha male, women are lesser attitude that this book had, sucked. It really brought it down for me. I'd be sitting there, having the time of my life, loving the book, and then boom. Frey would make some asshole LIFE CHANGING decision for Finnie without even consulting her. She'd lose her mind for a page or two and then make excuses for him and accept everything he does because it's “out of love and this is how he shows it”.
No. It's bullshit and absolutely deplorable.
Anyway. I did enjoy a lot of this book. Finnie makes it entirely worth reading. And the romance parts I liked, I did like. What little there was to do with politics was interesting. So. 3 stars. But please note, this just barely made it to stars.

I should have DNF'd this book.
I loathed Frey. I can't remember the last time I hated the love interest this much.
Okay so Finnie gets transferred to this world and is forced to marry him. He immediately treats her terribly and leaves her alone in a filthy cabin in the freezing cold for 6 weeks. Fine, whoever her twin was must have done something really bad...Nope. Actually the only thing the twin did was be gay and flee to a whole different ass world to have her freedom!! And they make a point to say "oh well he is normally fine with gay people, he's just upset he's marrying her and she doesn't want him" Well then he clearly has no empathy at all. Then throughout the story, they villainize this other twin and don't try to see things from her POV whatsoever. He claims the twin commited treason! And tells her parents that if she comes back, she'll be executed. The twin's parents and friends completely write the twin off. There are barely any comments about missing her and they accept that she's gone forever without a second thought.
Alright, then his biggest crime is early in the story. He binds Finnie to this world without giving her feelings a single thought. Fine, it's early in the story. He's obviously going to be remorseful as soon as he gets to know her. He'll confess out of guilt and they'll break the bind...Nope. There is no shred of remorse from him. He cuts her off from her entire future, feels no guilt, and he actively keeps her from finding out from the other witches.
Throughout the story, he makes horrible sexist comments. He tells her if they have daughters, they won't be taught to fight or won't be allowed to wear pants. He explains to her that he's royalty and he can fool around with whoever and as a woman she just has to deal with it. He declares himself above servants and the rest of society. Then he is a total asshole and has the woman he was fooling around with serve them all dinner to flaunt it in front of Finnie. The story makes it to be her fault and he never apologizes for his actions. Oh! And her mom gives her a speech that is basically "if you don't put out, he'll go elsewhere".
His next crime - He switches her birth control for a placebo to get her pregnant without her consent! It made me want to throw up. And when she's pregnant, he tries to control her and limit all her activities. They also make a point to say that they will have to keep having kids until they have a son to take the throne. Finnie is from our world, where is her feminism?! Why isn't she pushing for society changes?!
So he finally gets exposed for all of this - Finnie screams at him but as she's yelling a battle breaks out and he "dies". When they are reunited, she apologizes to him profusely. I was livid, screaming at her to run for the hills. Then in the end, he brings one of her friends from the other world to visit and somehow, that makes up for everything. I just hate him from the depths of my soul.
The only nice thing I have to say is the concept is interesting. I wish we alternated stories between the twins. I would have liked to learn how the twin's experience was going on earth.
The other books focus on different couples but I'm scarred from this book and I will not be continuing.

So there were components such as dude binding our girl permanently and the whole pregnancy shit I found repulsive in this story but well the era was different as explained and he atleast tried explaining and understanding.
Other than that I liked the flow of the story without huge conflicts. But tf was with these stretched monologues about each and everything Finnie observed, like I understand her fascination but god it was getting on my nerves but still I got used to it anyway lol !!
