29 Seconds is a fast-paced thriller with a fabulously fulfilling twist of an ending!

Sarah is a young wife, mother, and professor wading through university politics, trying to honestly work her way up under a man who has quite a reputation with the female professors. Alan Hawthorne is powerful, wealthy and holds the key to large amounts of funding for the University. While his reputation is well known throughout the office, every woman that has ever spoken up is suddenly removed from her post, her career ruined. When he sets his sights on Sarah, she has no choice but to consider his advances or decide if she's willing to fight. After a moment of impulse leaves her in the debt of a man with dangerous connections and an offer of repayment, she has to make a choice. A chance to make all her problems disappear... with one 29-second phone call. Would you take it?

T.M. Logan blew me away with his debut novel, Lies and I was beyond excited to dive into 29 Seconds. His writing style is fast-paced, every chapter leaving you hanging on edge, making it impossible to put down! Quickly becoming one of my favorite authors - I can't wait to see what he shares next!

Sarah is a university professor and faces many of the worst trials women can face in the workplace. She is an excellent professor but unless she plays ‘nice’ with her male boss, her job is at risk. Her boss is known for sexual harassment and worse but is always protected by the university when a complaint is filed against him. On the way home Sarah does a heroic act and saves a little girls life. The girls father is so grateful he offers Sarah a deal that is good for 72 hours. All she has to do is provide a name and that person will disappear forever. What will Sarah do?

How can she accept the offer but then again, as her boss makes her life and others lives worse each day, how can she not? How could she live with herself? This was a very intriguing story. It kept me interested throughout. I especially loved the ending. It was unexpected and I felt justice was truely served.

Sarah is a PhD educated, mum of two who is being sexually harassed by her boss at the University where she works on temporary contract.
Her boss: the old, white guy who is part of the “Men’s Club”, whose best buddy is the Dean of the university and who brings in money and prestige to the university has a history of sexual misconduct. But he is bulletproof.
That is, until Sarah gets an offer that could change everything.

That premise alone garnered my interest but this book made me so angry! And despite the short chapters, was just so easy to put down and felt like it took forever to read.

The main issue I had with this book other than its poor pacing was that the female main character is an utter wet blanket! She is completely unlikable. You’re supposed to be rooting for her especially as her situation is one every woman should feel alliance with, but I just couldn’t help feeling like this woman was a doormat and that she should do something about her life rather than just wait for something/someone else to save her.

Sarah’s choice, to make someone ‘disappear’, no strings attached, no fallbacks onto her sounds perfect but what does she do? Moan and completely fall apart about it!
Yes it’s a moral dilemma of sorts but her life sucks. When given the choice why wouldn’t you change that?

The rest of the story is a combination of Sarah’s own conscious eating her up, her mundane life looking after her two children and the fallout of the choice she made.

That fallout turns out to be pretty anticlimactic, followed by some ridiculous choices made that makes you angry at this smart woman - I hate when smart people do stupid things.
I shouldn’t have felt like what was happening to Sarah was her fault but I did. And overall my overwhelming opinion of this book is that this author can’t write women, and had no place writing about a woman dealing with sexual harassment.

The slightly clever ending saved this book from a none-rating but it wasn’t worth it as it was about 10 pages worth amongst even more fodder that made me angry.

29 seconds, a choice, one name and many regrets.

This book had me gripped from the start, it took a few turns which felt a little unrealistic but as the story progressed the loose ends were pulled together and it just worked. An empowering tale of fear, courage and righteous indignation. Once again T.M. Logan writes a gripping and harrowing story with many surprises. I thought after reading as many books as I have I could no longer be surprised, however, the ending I saw coming was not the ending at all! Well done!

Looking forward to the next book!
