“I can’t be scared of what forever looks like.”
“In the Comfort of Shadows,” by B. Nacole
I wish this book had a better cover because the book wasn’t entirely what I thought it would be, but it was way better. It’s super spicy. I loved the characters and how they interacted with each other. I wasn’t bored for even a second with this book, so it was worth the read. 4 out of 5 stars.

Please check CW and TW before starting this one. Verona’s life is a chaotic mess and it’s about to get even more crazy. If you enjoy fantasy books that have amazing imagery this one is a must read imo.

I feel the description of this book could do with a few changes as this was not at ALL what I had been expecting to read. Less gothic romantasy, more horny spice feast that just happens to be set in Hell. I even skipped ahead a few chapters to see if the plot picked up a little but was met with a strangely flat-feeling sex scene instead. No discredit to the book itself, nor the author, as I know this type of thing will be right up a lot of people's streets. Just not for me.

With some further editing I think there could be a really good story here. But unfortunately I found it difficult to get through. The character development and story line felt rushed and also left me confused and rereading pages to see if I’d missed something.
I found the main character Verona tiresome, and was often completely baffled by Lo and what was going on with him.
The story ready very much like moments in both A touch of Darkness and A Court of Mist and Fury.
With some more time spent on the world building and the characters development and interpersonal relationships I think it has potential.

Was expecting gothic fantasy but this reads like a fanfic. Made it through a couple of chapters before giving up and skimming the rest. Amateurish writing, gratuitous sex scenes (which are all described pretty much identically and grind the plot to a halt) and flat characters made this a DNF for me. Not my cuppa.

[I had the honor of receiving an ARC in exchange for an honest review]
Verona is a really relatable character. Even if she’s not my favorite kind of person, she feels real and I’m not one to say no to either demon sex or the I-hate-you-but-you’re-hot turning I-will-tear-the-world-down-or-die-for-you love.
The book focuses heavily on Verona and Lo’s relationship and it’s a roller coaster… An I mean that with the joy of my heart. It also focuses on Verona’s road to feel like she deserves the love and care from the people around her.
It’s absolutely a read that is perfect for the spooky season!
