3.5 stars. This was certainly a step up from the dreadful last entry in the series (The Vampire Armand), but still a far cry from earlier entries into the series. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but the ending was abrupt and unsatisfying.

This book started off so well and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of everything surrounding Merrick but as the plot progressed I’ve come to actively dislike David, he feels old fashioned, misogynistic and worst of all: a little bit of a pedophile. Towards the end of the book I felt a real roller coaster of emotions regarding Louis, I feel like he did things that were very unfitting for his character as it had felt up until that point and he felt just like a puppet to the other characters in the end…
But I’m giving three stars for atmosphere, writing style, appreciation for this literary universe and the first half of the book.
