This is a fascinating book. My review is on my blog and I am not posting it here because it makes more sense in the context of my blog. I have a picture of the original cover which is not listed here on Goodreads. If you have read this book I would love to hear your thoughts on it. https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2022/01/crooked-house.html

After nearly 30 years of writing Agatha writes a book that is so perfectly English country side murder mystery. It feels as though she read her first book and thought I could do better. This book is better in every way compared to the Mysterious Affair at Styles. We see this story through the love-struck Charles Hayward. After returning to England, he meets with Sophia Leonides to pick up where they left off. There is one problem, her grandfather Aristide has been poisoned. We follow Charles as he works as an inside man for the police and an outside man for Sophia. This book is full of vibrant characters. I had such a good time with this book. The ending is tragic and perfect. I can see why this was one of Dame Christie’s favorite books.

This is one of Christie’s better stories. I have been reading through her mysteries chronologically and have found a lot of patterns in most of her books, but this one does a great job of telling the story in an original way. It’s both creepy and sad, with a lot of symbolism around the “crooked” nature of people. The only downside is the frustratingly slow narrator. You will always be one step ahead of him. But beware, you will also be one step behind Christie.

PS The recent movie adaption of Crooked House was very good. I would argue better than the book, which I don’t say often.

Enjoyable, as always

Not my favorite Agatha Christie story, but still a page turning thrill. I enjoy the first person narrative very much.

I’m gonna be honest, at first I wasn’t sure why so many ppl recommended this one. It got a bit slow for a moment, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, yknow? That twist that keeps things interesting in an Agatha Christie novel. It took a minute to get there but man, when it did get there, it did not let up. The last 50 pages I was zooming through, I refused to put it down. And I get it now. Why people love it so much and highly recommended it. WHAT an ending. What a reveal.
