Cinco años después de haber leído Of Poseidon continué esta trilogía, y por fin, por fin me di cuenta exactamente por qué no me había terminado de gustar el primero (y este tampoco).
El problema es la falta de creatividad de la autora. Porque los syrena hablan mucho acerca de como son superiores a los humanos y sin embargo... son exactamente iguales. Tienen una monarquía que funciona más o menos como funcionan las monarquías humanas (y europeas, más específicamente). Las alianzas son como las humanas. Las familias son como las humanas. Todo es muy... humano. Es totalmente fácil olvidarse que son sirenas. Hubo una parte en la que leí varios capítulos hasta que caí en la cuenta que transcurrían bajo el agua. Porque casi no hay descripciones, y porque la manera en la que estos personajes que se supone son criaturas mitológicas hablan y se comportan son tan humanas que me olvidé que tenían colas y vivían en un reino subactuatico.
Y tampoco me convenció el villano, más que nada porque no ningún motivo por el cuál su villanización este justificada. Sí, conspira contra la banda de nuestros protagonistas, y eso sin duda lo hace un antagonista, pero ¿por qué es malo? Dan a entender que tiene un plan super secreto que será revelado en la siguiente entrega, pero hubiera sido mejor que lo explicaran acá nomas y terminábamos con esto de una. Lástima.
Y la manera en qué tratan de justificar que haya una parte de las syrena que se hartó de la realeza y los quieran sacar... ¿de verdad pretenden que crea que en el reino todo es fantástico y que simplemente les pintó sin ningún motivo causar una revuelta? Hmmm mirá con la cara que te mira Conan, me parece que ustedes los de la realeza son unos inútiles gobernando y una parte de su pueblo está descontenta por eso.
No me aburrió y por eso más que nada son las dos estrellas. Esta vez no tengo quejas contra los personajes (bueno sí: la madre de Emma me cae muy mal) o el romance porque simplemente no puedo soltar el hecho de que todo es tan poco original que duele.

I got the first book as a christmas present from my grandparents, and I must say it was amazing. Sorry, it wasn't amazing as 'thebestbookofmylifeamazing', but it's the perfect book, or perfect series to entertain yourself. I read all 3 books in 4 days. And that's something.
The characters are absolutely lovable, I loved Raína she was my absolute fav character.
The cover is OMG, love it, 5 stars.
But I have to point out: it's cheesy perfect one-afternoon read. You know those books when you just can't stop reading, you have to go on. Yeah, this is one of those :D
I absolutely recommend it to all young-adult fans if they're looking for a light read.

"Of Triton" continues the story of Emma, the half breed princess, and Galen, the second in line to the the Poseidon Kingdom, as they come to terms with the Royal Blood that runs through Emma's veins, the gift that she has inherited, and the similar gift that was seemingly given to another without royal blood. As Emma's mom, the long-lost daughter of the Triton King, presents herself back to the Syrena Kingdom they must face a tribunal in which the outcome could change the kingdoms forever. This tale continues the love story that is brewing between Emma and Galen as well as continues the romantic lives of those around them and explores how friendship, love, and family interact with one another. Just like with the first book the second book pulls you in immediately and keeps you going through to the end. Highly looking forward to the next book in the series.

*sigh* so good, this book is pure awesomeness. All the chasing, the banter, it just fits. Galen, Emma, the Royals and others were great characters and it was just great.

A ver... me gustó pero no hay trama. En el primer libro la historia era bastante simple, aunque entretenida. En esta continuación suceden todavia menos cosas y es un poco triste como se contestan todas las preguntas de una forma tan simple y sosa, me enojo bastante. De vuelta el plot twist es malo, se ve venir...demasiado. Lo único que no me esperaba es cierta decisión que toma la autora al final.
Me gustó, me entretuvo pero es mucho menos de lo que esperaba, y no entiendo la necesidad de hacer un tercer libro, todo queda muy bien resuelto en esta secuela. Siento que va a ser una de esas trilogías que no debieron ser lo, que hacen un tercer ejemplar sólo para rellenar la historia y alargarla. Si es así, va a ser una lástima porque tenía potencial.
Me gustó, me entretuvo pero es mucho menos de lo que esperaba, y no entiendo la necesidad de hacer un tercer libro, todo queda muy bien resuelto en esta secuela. Siento que va a ser una de esas trilogías que no debieron ser lo, que hacen un tercer ejemplar sólo para rellenar la historia y alargarla. Si es así, va a ser una lástima porque tenía potencial.

This is one of those "fun" series. I'm not exactly reading it for emotional depth or anything. I'm reading it because it's about freaking mermaids and mermaids are cool as hell. Short and to the point, funny cultural differences between the Syrena and humans, and of course a lot of whiny teen stuff and questions of how is the MC an A student when she's NEVER in school. That sort of thing.
I only wish there was a bit more world building, and less rambling that could have been cut. Made the writing choppy. The ending was quite rushed as well. As if she actually finished the book 50 pages earlier, but since there was nothing else to write about she slapped the ending on - which even that left a lot of weird unexplained things and not in the good way.
Regardless, it's a fun read. Like I said, mermaids are cool. So I automatically dig it.
I only wish there was a bit more world building, and less rambling that could have been cut. Made the writing choppy. The ending was quite rushed as well. As if she actually finished the book 50 pages earlier, but since there was nothing else to write about she slapped the ending on - which even that left a lot of weird unexplained things and not in the good way.
