I was bored out of my mind. I just didn’t connect with the characters or the the execution of the plot. I would only recommend this to a reader who wants to read the rest of the Sweater Weather collection, but I would tell them this was the most boring out of all of them.

I know I said that Faking the Fall by Julie Christianson was my favorite in the Sweater Weather series, and it still is. But A Not So Fictional Fall by Savannah Scott is totally tied for first place! I loved everything about this book. The premise is fantastic. I love the idea of a romance-loving reader falling for an author of romances. I appreciate that the hero (the author of said romances) and the heroine (the romance novel connoisseur) had a clear connection and some mighty BIG chemistry brewing before the whole marriage of convenience thing. This made it easy for me to buy into their marriage. I don’t usually like modern-day marriage of convenience stories because they tend not to be realistic or relatable, but Savannah Scott did this trope right. I really enjoyed watching Tasha and Pierre’s relationship grow and change from initial sparks of interest, to real friendship, to love. There were some good laughs along the way, too, and some seriously swoony, passion-filled kisses. WOWZERS, the kisses were good! My favorite thing about this story, though, was watching Pierre wake up to life and love. He had put his heart into hibernation-mode, but meeting Tasha wakes him up big time. It was fun seeing Tasha weave her way into his heart. And I really loved his protective streak. I love when a guy is protective over his girl. Pierre is the best! Everything about this story is the best!

A Not So Fictional Fall is a charming and endearing read I won’t soon forget. If you are a fan of sweet romances filled with excellently crafted characters then this is definitely the book for you!

I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on October 4, 2023, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Thank you to Savannah Scott for the book to review. All opinions are my own.

Pierre Toussaint is a famous romance novelist. But he has gotten to live in anonymity behind his pen name, Amelie De Pierre. Which suits him just fine. But when his agent has the bright idea to unveil the man behind the book at a literary festival, he meets and is immediately drawn to one of his super fans Tasha.

Tasha is a book lover. She works as an assistant to authors, she narrates audiobooks, she has a Bookstagram. And when she literally bumps into the hot French man who, it turns out, is her favorite author,  she is taken aback by this new reality. And she is even more taken aback when his agent proposes to her on Pierre's behalf, or rather for Pierre's sake because he did not know about the ask before the question was posed. And when she says yes to becoming Pierre's wife to get him a visa, neither of them is prepared for what faking a relationship will do to their hearts.
_____
If you like the movie the Proposal, this book has very similar vibes. Tasha and Pierre have much to confront in their ownselves in regards to their feelings about romance. The have to contend with fictional ideals, their own fictional scenario, and their not so fictional feelings. I liked the community around Tasha and Pierre and how supportive they were and how they knew them and pushed them to confront their feelings.

This story requires some suspension of belief with coincidences and the risks taken, but what good romance doesn't require you to take a leap of faith?
_____
This is a closed door, kisses only romance.

There is a bonus scene available by joining the author's newsletter. Make sure and check that out!

This fake engagement/marriage of convenience story was pretty cute! I enjoyed the way things developed even though they didn't actually get married until about 75% of the way in. Their draw to one another was obvious from the start. A couple of things: the MMC is supposed to be from France but nowhere in the acknowledgements, etc did it give away whether the author can actually speak French or if she had help with translations, etc. And also there was a JKR reference since he was an author--just pick a different author, folks.
