What an absolute banger. This is one of the books I haven't read from Heyer and the start was a bit tepid for my tastes because there were some intentionally unlikeable characters right off the bat. Within a few chapters though I was practically kicking my feet and giggling at everything.
I absolutely think that this is a great example of a fake engagement.

This was exactly the lighthearted, funny, and yet surprisingly emotional read I needed. The descriptions of the culture of the "ton" and the dresses and what they're wearing was delightful. It helps if you have a fair grasp on what English high society was like back then and you might have to Google a few words here and there. But it was so funny and made me laugh aloud multiple times. I didn't think I'd like the frivolous characters at the beginning, but you grow to love them and the friendships and relationships they create! A really enjoyable read.
