Read over a series of bedtimes with my oldest - this was a great, simple detective story. It has lots of illustrations and humour, short chapters that were easy to read and no toilet humour otherwise rife in books targeted to the same age range. I need to find more books like this!

OMG, this was just such a delight to read. I had so so much fun. I loved Colin, he was definitely and by far my favourite character of the whole book. I had a suspicion who those two people were right from the beginning, but that didn't make the book any less fun, if anything it made it more fun as I was waiting for Penguin to figure it out. I also love the old lady with her pigeon. The treasure hunt was just perfect and fun and alligator-invested. There is treasure, fish-sandwiches, and more. The art was so much fun. And I cannot wait until after my vacation because I got plans to get the other books.

I read this book for my 4yo and he liked it, though not as much as he does with shorter picture books. Although the book has lots of lovely illustrations, it's quite long for very young kids. The plot is simple, you can count all characters with your fingers, I knew what the twist would be as soon as the characters made their first appearance... but it's still too much to grab for my 4yo, he couldn't see who the bad guys are (Oh dear!) I guess the book would be more entertaining for a school kid. The characters are quite funny and comical. As a parent I enjoyed the book nonetheless.

Thoroughly enjoyable adventure story perfect for developing readers aged 8+ full of silly humour and enough mystery to keep them engaged as the plot progresses. I can't wait to introduce these to my pupils as I'm sure they'll become firm favourites!

Loveable, bumbling characters, witty dialog, and plenty of slapstick humor make this a highly illustrated mystery series that will please young sleuths and adventurers who love to laugh. It's silly fun.

4.5 stars! So much fun, absurdly addicting characters, fast-paced adventure and the illustrations are fabulous- to be expected by Alex T. Smith. Enjoyed it so much!
