Really into it even if it stresses me out that she is so puppy dog with him

If you like Avatar: The Last Air Bender, you would love this book! It has similar aspects with the different powers the sorcerers all have.

Even if you don’t like, or haven’t watched Avatar: The Last Air Bender, you would more than likely enjoy this book. It has a really intriguing story and some very interesting characters.

This book is more on the YA side, but does have a little bit of a start with some love interests going on I think. I look forward to reading the next one. ☺️

So good I couldn't stop reading after I started.

I love the dynamic between Vhalla and Arlick. I love how their friendship (and love) built slowly, realistically. Nothing was overdone or left unsaid that didn't perfectly balance this book the way it was meant to be. I cannot wait to read the second.

I could not put this book down! I'm glad I'm a bit late to the game so I can immediately start reading the second one.

Very enjoyable, though with some typical fantasy tropes and generally reminiscent of other Ya fantasy series, still an exciting, additive ride overall.

P.S. The Air Awakens definitely has some similarities with Shadow and Bone.

Pre-review:

I've heard both really good and really bad things about this series, so I have actually no idea if I'll like this one or not.

I always enjoy reading about elemental powers though! Plus, the MC is supposed to be a bookworm. So that sounds pretty promising at least! *crosses fingers*

A fairytale retelling? You may disagree, but there are shades of Cinderella in this book. A girl crushing on a prince (not The prince, though), hidden away in a library, slaving away (working long days with barely any time off, rough rooms, life, food, etc.), lifted out of her poverty - there's even a ball! Do you see where I'm going? The role of nasty stepsisters is taken by the Emperor (and Egnum, but you'll have to wait a while for him to show himself).

Vhalla discovers she is a dreaded sorcerer, and one with powers unseen for nearly a century!

Loved every minute.
