Very funny, totally absurd, brilliantly executed. Nothing makes sense but somehow it’s all connected…
Some parts were surprisingly modern despite being written in 1988, although there are a lot of 80sisms, so be prepared. Never really understood the coke machine.

While nearly as funny as the first book, and similarly insightful at times, I found the plot to be less than satisfying. Even considering the insanity that is the Dork Gently universe, this story still felt a bit over-the-top ridiculous. I also thought the resolution
regarding the legal contract and how it was broken (?) by Toe Rag, as well
was more confusing than it ought to have been, and I resorted to reading a plot summary to understand what happened in the end. Overall a fun romp, though certainly not a must-read, even for fans of the first book.

"Even eagles were being swooped on by eagles" pretty much sums up the book for me: funny, but random, and too much action. And yes, there is a thing as too many eagles.

As compared to Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, this one looked better plot-wise at first, but then became much more of a let-down.

I have to admit that the randomness didn't bother me as much as the long, detailed scenes of supernatural hammers being thrown around and eagles swooping on different people (well, mainly Dirk). Too much action, no mystery, as some other reviewers said.

I'm now staring to believe that Gently's signature "inter-connectedness of things" approach was more of an excuse for Adams to explain the randomness of the plot than anything else.
