I read this story not long after it was released in Full Dark, No Stars. It was my favourite in that book.

This story is from Full Dark, No Stars and it's much better than the first novella in the collection - 1922. Stephen did some great writing here.

We follow a female author during one of her speeches at a library. Things go from pleasant to ghastly, quick.

This is a REVENGE tale. I never understand the allure of a revenge tale until a few years back. I finally get that there are horrible things we all go through in some way or other and for the majority of us, life goes on and we endure. A revenge tale gives us the fantasy of being able to fight back and win justice from the wrong doers. So, now I can see the value of these tales. It feels good to think someone got justice against these bullies.

This revenge tale is about the rape of the author. Stephen gives plenty of details, but thankfully, he doesn't go into the grisly details of it all. There's enough to get the horror of it. The rest is all about the revenge.

The story is over 100 pages and it's another dark tale. This collection is turning out to be very grim.

Despite the rape scene this was a great book. Could be because I just finished 1922 and hated it, but I don’t think that’s it. The main character was well written and as revenge plots go this was a page turner.

It was also absolutely top tier. The story follows an author (his favorite kind of protagonist) named Tess who, after taking a shortcut home, is left for dead, having been violently raped.

After regaining consciousness surrounded by her attacker’s other victims’ corpses, she plots a violent revenge.

This story was incredibly well written, as usual, but the plot was riveting as well and had a fantastic and satisfying ending. There were a couple of plot twists and overall it was such a treat to read. I’m becoming a huge fan of his “short” stories. (I say short in quotes because they’re still like. 150 pages.)

My favorite story from Full Dark, No Stars. If only King wrote more revenge or serial-killer stuff.

A semi famous author, Tessa Jean, who writes cozy mysteries goes to a library speaker event that goes well. After the librarian, Romona Norville, tells her of a short cut, her car breaks down, and she is raped by a big guy truck driver nick named "Big Driver". She decides to take matters into her own hands and decides to get revenge for herself.
This one is an intense and a horrifying read. Getting raped is every woman's fear and I imagine its easier to feel more satisfied by punishing the male yourself than doing what is consider the rationale thing and go to police. Tessa reasons her way out of reporting this and even starts talking to herself through her cat and GPS. It looks at Tessa's slow descent as she finds a way to cope with the trauma that happened. It is an uncomfortable, but satisfying at the same time as Tessa does everything she is capable of to get her revenge. It is a fast paced despite it being a hard read with a disturbing plot.
