Hallo, guten Tag and welcome!
This challenge is for you if you want to get to know Germany beyond WWII.
There are 11 prompts and 6 bonus prompts, so you can even do it as a year-long monthly challenge.
I've added a few notable works for each prompt (🔹 is for English translations), so feel free to browse.
Here are a few guidelines to get the most out of the challenge:

Here are a few guidelines to get the most out of the challenge:
- I tried to include broader prompts for contemporary and historical fiction as well as prompts that require you to read from a specific author group or period, so refer to the prompt to find out which books count. The goal is to experience a wide variety of literature. If you read (historical) fiction, make sure it takes place in what is now - or was back then - Germany.
- Some books fit two prompts - read a different book for each of them.
- Read books in any language you like.
- For all the prompts, read books written by European authors.
- Try only reading books written by authors from Germany.*
*That will not be possible for all of us, depending on what languages we read in.
If you read in any European language other than German or English, you can try to find out if a book has been translated into your language. Some German books don't have an English translation, but have been translated into other languages.
Take as much time as you want, enjoy yourself, hopefully learn something and let's trade some book recommendations!
