This reading challenge is created by The Free Black Women’s Library (@thefreeblackwomenslibrary on instagram). Each year they have a challenge and I’ve added to this challenge the 2023 prompts.

“Our goal is to read 25 books written by Black women or Black non binary folks in 2023. To some that's a lot to some that's a little - BUT low key high key the main purposes of this challenge are to build community with other book lovers worldwide, diversify our reading lists and grow out of reading comfort zones.”—per their IG post announcing the 2023 challenge.

Be sure to follow them on Instagram because they share tons of amazing recommendations for each prompt! Over the years I’ve discovered so many great books from them I’ve never heard of elsewhere (my fave so far: Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals by Alexis Pauline Gumbs!)

Since the main goal is to read 25 books by Black women and Black non-binary authors and all the prompts from TFBWL are to help inspire and diversify your reads within that parameter, I’m going to set up the main challenge prompts here with just 1-25 books by Black women and non-binary authors. But I will add all of the prompts provided by TFBWL as bonus prompts to complete at the top!
