Overview
Bridgerton: Build-A-Ball Readathon is a Bridgerton inspired event based on the book series by Julia Quinn and the Netflix Series by Shondaland that takes place for the entire month of September with the goal of creating and hosting your own Regency Era Ball!
Rules:
- Your first task is to create your Host Title (i.e. Lord/Lady/Liege + blank + ton) using your first read of the month. The book you select here can be used for any one of the other prompts within the readathon.
- From there, you’ll continue through the prompts to select your season, location, theme, etc.
- There are a bunch of categories and options when it comes to building your ball, so double-ups are allowed! The only catch is that one book can’t cover prompts within the same category - i.e. ‘Book A’ can be used for the prompts Quadrille within ‘The Dance’ and Butterfly within the ‘Theme’ categories, but can’t be used for two prompts within ‘The Dance’ category.
- If you think a book fits the prompt(s) - it fits!
Prompts (choose a minimum of one in each category - feel free to complete more if you would like!):
Selecting the Season:
- Spring (February-April): Read a book set in Spring
- Summer (May-July): Read a book set in Summer
- Fall (August-October): Read a book set in Autumn
- Winter (November-January): Read a book set in Winter
Location:
- Aubrey Hall: Read a book with a country setting
- Bridgerton House: Read a book that features a large family (biological or found)
- Featherington House: Read a book that features conflict/strain between family members
- Clyvedon Castle: Read a book featuring a child as a main character
- Buckingham House: Read a book with royalty as a focus
Theme:
- Four Seasons: Read a book with nature on the cover
- Butterfly: Read a book with an animal or creature on the cover
- Innovation: Read a book featuring technology or science
- Harmony: Read a book featuring music
- Masquerade: Read a book featuring a character(s) with a secret identity
- Engagement: Read a book featuring an engagement and/or wedding
The Dance:
- Scotch Reel: Read a book featuring travel
- Mazurka: Read a buddy read or book club book
- Quadrille: Read a book with a strong friend group (4+ characters)
- Waltz: Read a book with dual-POVs
The Music:
- In My Blood by Vitamin String Quartet (Simon & Daphne): Read a book with the Fake Dating trope
- Wrecking Ball by Midnite String Quartet (Anthony & Kate): Read a book with the Enemies-to-Lovers trope
- Nobody Gets Me by Caleb & Brian Chan (Queen Charlotte & King George): Read a book with the Arranged Marriage trope
- You Belong With Me by Duomo (Colin & Penelope): Read a book with the Friends-to-Lovers trope
- abcdefu by Vitula (Breaking the Norm in the 1800s): Read a book without romance
Guest of Honor:
- Lady Danbury: Read a book with a strong/wise female role model
- Prince Fredrick of Prussia: Read a book set in a fictional location (town, country, world, etc.)
- Marquess Samadani: Read a translated book
- Queen Charlotte: Read a book with disability and/or mental health representation
Scandalized!:
- Virtue Maintained: Read a Middle Grade or Young Adult book
- Courting Scandal: Read an Adult book without romance in the main plot
- Ruination for All: Read a steamy/spicy Adult book
